Do I need to comply with 2257 if...
If the servers hosting my website are in the Netherlands, but I live in the US (I'm a resident, but a German citizen) do I still need to comply with the 2257 laws?
I have 2257 notices on the site, but just wondering if the law applies. Thanks for your help ![]() |

Yes, just because you are a citizen of another country does not mean you don't have to follow the laws of the country you are in. Of course, check this out with an attorney competent in such matters but I think this one is open and shut.

So the server location does not matter? It's the location of the webmaster that matters?

Correct. The government doesnt care where the traffic is going, you are conducting business in the united states therefore your applicable to the laws. Your nationality does not matter either. Get that up to date before they get ya boy

Thanks for the replies. Well I do have 2257 notices on my sites. They are celebrity fake nude galleries and I'm not selling anything (making money with ads) so not sure if that's all I need to do.
I heard that if you're not selling anything yourself they don't really check for 2257 but I wanna be on the safe side... |

The only way YOU can get around providing 2257 info is if you run a social networking site (tube, forum, etc.) where end users have access to upload their own content.
Your situation is that of a 3rd party producer in which case you need the contact info fro the primary producer. Again, check with a competent legal advisor but again, this is pretty open and shut. You should probably read the law: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/71...7----000-.html Hopefully that will help you better understand the regulations. Making money has nothing to do with it.
