Link exchanging with unrelated sites

I've been getting a lot of emails (spam?) from different sites requesting link exchanges. Some of these sites are ranked by Google (1), but they're not adult sites and are completely unrelated to my site. (eg. home insurance link exchange with my adult cam model recruiting site)

Obviously I wouldn't expect to get any clicks to my site from a home insurance website, but in your experience, is it still worth doing link exchanges with unrelated sites for SEO purposes?

Doubt solid mainstream sites want to trade links with adult sites.

The value on those links is in my mind crap - Because first of all those sites that wanna trade links with an adult site, is proberly those spammy type sites, and the se's wont find it relevant at all... save your pr for adult sites instead, would be a waste in my mind

Yeah, my initial reaction was that it would be a waste -- the emails felt generic and impersonal.

Would it make any difference if my site was technically not "adult"? Basically, there is no nudity or explicit images anywhere on my site, though the content is adult related since I recruit webcam models.
