Google first page and positions traffic allocation

Hi

I was wondering if anybody knows what kind of Traffic allocation you can expect from been on the first page of Google depending in what position you are in (1st, 2nd - 10th).

I am guessing that it's not divided by 10 :P

Any input would be grand. Thanks!

The number 1 ranked website receives 42% of clicks

The number 2 ranked website receives 12% of clicks

The number 3 ranked website receives 8% of clicks

The number 4 ranked website receives 6% of clicks

The number 5 ranked website receives 5% of clicks

The number 6 ranked website receives 4% of clicks

The number 7 ranked website receives 3% of clicks

On average. The rest is divided between 7 - ~

It's easily demonstrable using a heatmap, these figures are averages and there have been studies which dispute these figures, for example Cornell University did a study back in 2005 I think it was that showed 50% clicking positions 1, then a drop off , then a rise again at the bottom of the page.

The point is, that you should aim for Google number #1 position where possible for your keywords as there is not too much glory in number 2 - 10.
