how to make an animated gif look good

I need to know if there is any good programs or a way inside photoshop cs 5 to create an animated gif from a video that looks good. I figured out how to import frames to layers and to smart sharpen all layers in PS and even though the end result is not horrible, it could be a lot better. see example below

Photoshop gurus please help

First, you have to realize that because you're restricted to 256 colors there will always be a quality difference between a gif and the original color video.

If the video is greyscale you can get away with more since the color space is a better match to gif's restrictions.

You always need to start by the limits you're working under: what's the maximum file size?

Then you can start testing reducing the color palette/size of the image until you hit the palette/image size combo that suits your needs.

I create mine in Premier pro: I am not 100% happy with them but they take just seconds to create this way.
I get a few sec clip I am happy with.
<right click> > Field options > Always deinterlace
Export> animated gif
Video setting> frame rate 10
Video Settings> Field Order > Progressive ( this stops the lines issue I had)
Video settings> Aspect > square Pixels (1.0)

Output
Source scaling>Scale to fill

It's not perfect, but then again it only take a a minute or so to create one.

I am not happy with the logo in the gif it is a little blurry, but it works for now
