Hosting questions

Hi,

I'd be grateful for some advice on hosting.

I've been building a free site, and have so far been using free hosting. I feel that now I'm at the right stage to move over to proper hosting.

Just been looking at the Webair starter plan, and was wondering if it should be enough for my site wehateporn.com . Currently I receive less than 500 hits a day, I'm working on building this up, not sure how long it will take, at what stage would the starter pack not be able to cope with it? 10,000 hit a day?

Does anyone here have experience with Webair? It's the first one I've looked at so far, after hearing a couple of recs.

One particular piece of the starter pack info that I don't fully understand is '250 Gigabyte Transfer' does this mean the maximum per day? Here's the rest of the starter pack info:

* 5000 MB Storage
* Unrestricted Bandwidth
* 1 IP Address
* Unlimited Email
* Unlimited Domains
* Free Backups
* Free Ecommerce
* Free Control Panel
* 250 Gigabyte Transfer
* Shopping Cart

And one more thing...on the virtual hosting page, there is an offer highlighted saying 'SIGNUP for Webair's virtual starter for one year for $4.95 mo. Save over 50%! ' Unyet when I click on the 'ORDER' button for the starter plan it doesn't mention this, and goes straight over to $9.95 mo.

Many thanks

Pete WHP

Hi nostraludamus,

In fact I didn't go with webair in the end. It was incredibly difficult to make a selection; so much choice. I asked for advice on many forums, and searched to track down horror/nice stories on many different hosting companies. In the end I had eliminated a fair few due to bad stories or high pricing. Partly on gut instinct I went with DWHS and went for their $6.95 business plan. This is upgradable in case my site starts performing well, and also I could pay with Paypal, which for various reasons suited me best on this occasion. (long story).

So far I've only been with them a day, the CPanel is good, it's all easy to set up, plenty of options allow one to easily add forums, or other scripts (perhaps all hosts give that, I don't know because I haven't tried them). I'll keep everyone updated as to how the site runs, pro/cons etc.

I guess the time comes when you have to make a selection, and take a bit of a risk, fortunately it's not too much money to be risking.

One important factor I should mention, is that the fact that the servers are based in the USA appealed to me, as I'm guessed (and could be wrong) that that's where most of my traffic will be based.

Thanks Pete, Yep im pulling the trigger on something today. Your correct, it isn't big money to risk but its is a pita to have to shop again. Let us know a few months from now how things are going and good luck with the site.
