The feasibility of .info's for adult sites

Long time reader, first time poster. Love the service you guys and girls provide.

With the failing economy and seemingly global meltdown of many of the world's industries, I am increasingly surprised that .com still reigns so clearly supreme. At 99 cents on Godaddy how has .info still not taken off? It's a general domain suffix so it can be used for any project, including adult sites.

Now I fully understand that when you are planning on investing 1000 dollars into a site and focusing on it as a premier project, the extra 9 dollars for a .com is paltry to the end rewards. But after a quick scan of available domains, there's some amazing .info's available! Do a quick search and you may be surprised.

I personally grabbed a kinda odd series of sites just cuz... well i kinda liked the sound of it. What a network...

WhatANetwork.info
WhatACutie.info
WhatABooty.info
WhatABody.info
WhatAHotty.info

I dunno, have I gone off the deep end? Does anyone have any evidence for the success or failures of .info here?

I'm tempted to pick up a few of the list of 100+ .info's i found that are 1 or 2 words each.

They will still work. As long as you put some real effort into them.

Agreed, though they are associated with "spam" more so than other TLDs, like .com...

One of the things that people have lost or just dont know when it comes to the domains is what the DOT com, gov, us or any and all of that meant.

.com was intended for commercial sites.
.info was intended for Informational sites.
.gov Government sites
.net I believe was networking sites
.org was for organization.

that was the idea at least.

Well, and now that ICANN is going to change the address system and allow more TLDs, like potentially .europe, .magazine, etc.....

ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the not-for-profit, multi-stakeholder organization dedicated to coordinating the Internet?s addressing system, held a meeting at the end of October in Cairo, where they published a draft of the Applicant Guidebook for new gTLDs (top level domains). The guidebook makes it clear that it is a discussion draft only, and that potential applicants should not rely on any of the proposed details of the new gTLD program as the program remains subject to further consultation and revision. However, for those considering applying for a new gTLDs, this guidebook provides meaningful insight into the process. Rest of story

So, you never know what you may want to save your money for!!!
