Noob - Creating & Paying for Content

Noob here - 2 questions re: content.

For you guys creating your own content, do you pay in cash? I assume this is the accepted practice. If you pay cash, how do recommend to track expenses?

For 3rd party content, do sponsors provide vids & pics that you use within your site and host yourself without redirects? IE a link to the 3rd party's site for more, but not sending the user to the site until they like the content & want to see more...

Thx.

I always pay cash. You could keep a written log or use one of the various money software programs to track your expenses.

I'll give it a shot --

If you pay cash, how do recommend to track expenses?

Receipts! If you are hiring a model, then there should be some type of contract and invoice (maybe...I don't produce content, going off mainstream experience).

Model is offering her professional services (unless she works through an agency, in which case I would assume they have an invoice/receipt system set up), so therefore she must bill you via an invoice, and provide you a receipt of payment.

For tracking expenses, I recommend using a system, such as QuickBooks, or something like Zoho.com, so that come tax time, you have everything in order (not to mention it will keep you organized and on track, i.e. payment reminders, etc.). I'm sure you can do some searches on Google and come up with all sorts of similar services...I must say, Zoho is pretty cool though.

I also suggest you visit with an accountant to get this all ironed out. You can get seriously screwed (professional services pay pretty high taxes), so you want to do what works best for you (do it solo, under corp. etc.), know what you can write off, etc.

A lawyer never hurts either...ESPECIALLY if you're shooting content, it's pretty much mandatory.

For 3rd party content, do sponsors provide vids & pics that you use within your site and host yourself without redirects?

Yep, there are a lot of ways that webmasters utilize the promotional tools, such as free hosted galleries, picture of the day, RSS feeds, banners, etc. that sponsors provide them with. You'll find that this is a huge source of competition among sponsors, since quality of promo tools, how often they're updated, what is offered, etc., can really make a big difference to a webmaster.

One possible scenario is that someone makes a blog post on their site www.IWantToFuckARedhead.com (made that up, not sure if it exists) about Faye Valentine saying, "This young red head is fucking gorgeous and does hardcore." They get the pics/video from their sponsor and say, click here to see more of Faye. Now, this link can go to a free hosted gallery, where they would then join. Or, maybe it goes to a gallery you made.

Make sense?
