Question on conversion rates

Curious since this is the first time dealing with an affiliate program I'm curious what is an average conversion rate for affiliate programs?

1 sale to 300 hits?

1 sale to 500 hits?

I'm new to this so any insight would be very much appreciated! I want to succeed with the new affiliate program and want to know what I should be shooting for

Thanks so much!

I dont think that there is something like average conversion rate for affiliate programs.
It depends on whether it is niche or mainstream, has trial or not and many other parameters.
+ it also depends on traffic sources. Review site get something like 1:50, 1:100
But mainstream tube site may have ratios around 1:1-2K and worse.
Even if you calculate an average ration within one affiliate program it wont make much sense

My website gets almost complete quality google traffic and I'm a little over 0:300 so far on some of my programs and I have just started. So I would guess conversion rates average around 1:500 or 1:1000. Just depends on the sponsor though, some people get crazy conversion rates.

Thanks everyone for your input. I know there is no one definitive answer... was just trying to get an idea for ballpark figures... so you answered perfectly Gives me somewhere to start... and somewhere to aim to

depends on the traffic source as some guys will geo target the traffic to only high quality countries combined with a perfect match on the niche which works well and others will have traffic from all over the place and wont target it from a good niche to match the target site. I have converted 1 out less than 100 and on other things 1 out of 1000-2000+ as the quality of the site you are promoting combined with the quality match of the traffic source will vary the results. 1000 targeted hits from the US is better than 10,000 hits from turkey etc... In your case affiliates promoting from all amateur sites will convert better than affiliates promoting from a mix of different niches.

It really depends on how you work your traffic.

If you land them on a general TGP/MGP/BLOG/Tube then the ratios will be crap. 1:1k or more. But if you are filtering/niching them down then the ratios will improve but be lower numbers overall.

In other words from a general site you get 1 in 3k from a niched and sub niched you can get 1:200 or so. but you may only get about 300 or 400 where you had 3 or 4 k. but thats fine. You got rid of the dead weight.
