This topic is fucking retarded. Most of the largest fucking TGPs on the planet are in text only format and do not skim. Even your larger thumb TGPs such as Madthumbs, Bunnyteens, OnlyCarla etc will give you a gallery for the first 3 clicks. Guess what happens after that? trade fucking city. Im not saying that there are no CJ text sites of course there are. I just think that people tend to trust a text tgp more so than they would a thumb TGP i.e. madthumbs given their track record. they suck. Great business model if the year was 2000. LOL, no text link TGP/MPG's are very much alive and kicking these days.

Thumb TGP/MPG's are by far the most popular out of the two as these days there are loads of adult webmasters so very keen to give a surfer easier access to free porn to get the traffic stats up quickly so they can make a few $ selling partner accounts on the back of their "impresive" traffic stats.

Most people make thumb tgps nowadays, because they are easier to grow. But text tgps convert a lot better, the traffic is more tartgetted because of descriptions(if they are good). Right now I know only 1 good converting thumb tgp.

Text GPs are likely to increase in popularity because:

1) Light on bandwidth.

2) Text qualifies surfers more - a lot of window shoppers will leave a text GP and conversly, the non-(thumbnail)-clutter of a text GP attracts serious surfers (who convert).

3) With sponsors offering FHG and descriptions, it's much easier to blast off several hundred pages/niches of text GPs.

4) While it's a soft advantage, 2257 seems to have convinced many affiliates to go non-graphic (to avoid hosting explicit image content) - text GP wins again, although I'm not sure that 2257 exempts (or will exempt) explicit sexual text as much as many would like to think.

5) Oh yeh, SE traffic rocks and it's FREE to text GPs!

I'm not so sure about that. When surfers click on a thumb tha get directed to a TGP site instead of the gallery, they think twice about re-clicking on the same thumb.

If the stats could be known, I wonder if more traffic is generated by text links than by the thumb sites. Then again I'm clueless about a lot of things. Just looking at the Alexa numbers for all the big text link sites and I believe.

Shemp makes a good point of the miss-use of sponsor content. As stated by others, few seem to complain. If your read the TOS of most sponsors and take it literally it would seem a real violation.

To get traffic up most have to use a trading script. That's click fraud. We all bitch about exits, redirects etc. Yet it is an everyday thing to use the redirect created by a trading script.

You have to have a fairly large site from a traffic point of view (100K +) to setup decent trades without sort of redirect. Quality does go up, that is for sure.

Would you also lose 90% of the revenue? :)

Or they keep clicking it to see if they get to see that gallery. I see a description or pic I want to see, I'll click through several trips to a sites trading partners with the hope......

Thumbs are pritty and get lots of clicky.

I am old school text. My sites are text driven. I would swap 10 pic clickers for 1 text clicker any day of the week.

The industry is swamped with fake over skimming thumb tgp's and this hurts the few non skimming quality thumb tgp's that are out there.

You have to communicate with your surfers via text. Text controlled surfers are much more productive. Thumb links are best used to get rid of shite traffic.

Traffic arrives from se's and link lists via text and if you are smart you will continue the journey for them with text. It is the only way to build trust and capture loyal bookmarks.:2 cents:

the plan here is to run both, some like text, some like thumbs. If they dont understand the text, they will understand the thumbs.

that's the best idea - i'm actually in the process of creating a thumb based version of one of my text tgps - will be interesting to see if things change at all...

The question should be if you were starting out again would you go the text or thumb route.

Most countries where I get my sign ups are English speaking, but I figure for the point of productivity and traffic is to get them to click and look. This is a good example of getting sponsors that have geo targeted sign up pages. Is there such a thing?
