So I guess it means we need to redo windows, eh? The airhandler is new. but I bet it's our insulation and house layout that blows.

God you guys are so cheap to get by...

No one has even mentioned their hair, clothes, nails accounts for the month, heehee...

You're still paying insane amounts for a house that size in Houston. I know many people with much bigger houses and they're bill is never even close to half of that even with a pool.

Peaches 01-13-2007 09:12 PM

Poorly insulated houses are a killer. Since the hubby inherited it, take the money you WOULD be paying for a house payment and get it in shape. Most utilty companies (gas, electric) will come out for free and show you where problems are. We had a 3400 sq home before this one with $500-600 electric/gas every month because it was so poorly insulated.

I'm having problems with the AC running in basement even with the vents closed, but I saw some magnetic vent covers I'm going to try. The basement is almost toally subterrain so it's cold there already and with the thermostat on the next floor up, the basement is like ice and I'm sure I'm losing AC there.

Hell, it could be something as simple as turning down the thermostat on the water heater.

My cost of living just went way up. :-/

cool1 01-13-2007 09:39 PM

$350 a month for living expenses.
$1400 a month for weed and Hot Wheels diecast cars, I buy quite a few fairly expensive little cars ever month.

he-fox 01-13-2007 10:06 PM

500-1000$

bogo 01-13-2007 10:09 PM

$3500/ mth covers my house, hydro, cable, car lease, phones and inernet.- Food, clothes, fun, and entertaimnent not included. :Oh crap

selena 01-13-2007 10:22 PM

$4k will cover it all. I have 2 boys living at home, so that adds to it.

I live in the Philippines. It totally depends WHERE you want to live here and WHAT your lifestyle expectations are.

NORMALLY, $500 to $1K a month is fine for mid to lower level accommodations and lifestyle. If you live LARGE it will be more but that's the same for everywhere in the world. The only difference is its GENERALLY cheaper to live "large" here.

my electric bill is $1000-1200/mo or so..

www.energypricesarekilling.com is a little site i made about it to send to the media

my total expenses between my gf and i (i support her, she's a student) are about 5k/mo.. we rent an apartment in orange county. if we owned a house, it'd be around 8k/mo

BitAudioVideo 01-14-2007 12:27 AM

if i just paid the required bills it would be about 1700-2000/mo
have no car payments, have no credit card debts

i have a few sometimes expensive hobbies

looking for about 30 acres to buy so im figuring on increasing my monthly expenses slightly in the near future.

Vick! 01-14-2007 12:32 AM

$1200+ a month including everything ..

Mad Man of Porn 01-14-2007 12:35 AM

I'm trying to get my expenses down the 2k a month range since I haven't really worked in almost 4 years now. I'm starting to get in a finacially embarressed situation. )-:

baddog 01-14-2007 12:42 AM

Ivana Fukalot 01-14-2007 01:53 AM

GoAR 01-14-2007 02:45 AM

I don't see how some of you guys are living so cheap ... I wish I could do that, but a $600 apartment just wouldn't cut it for me :(

Rent: $3200/m
Cable Internet/TV: $200/m
Verizon Phone/Internet: $120/m
Water: $60/m
Electricity: $250/m
Food: $1200/m
Vehicle Gas: $1000/m
Car Payments: $2850/m

This is before any extracurricular activities/fun.

Total: $8880~

I don't see any major way of cutting it down either since its mostly made up of house and car payments. Oh well

Sosa 01-14-2007 09:21 AM

alot more now that I'm married and moved into a bigger house. We can't keep the basement warm at all. Weird since it is all newly built and all. Gotta have them come look at it.

4Man 01-14-2007 09:56 AM

Thats real nice... Those are the 2 that add up the most. :thumbsup

I live in the downstairs unit of a duplex I own right now, so the rent from the top unit actually covers the entire mortgage, all of their utilities and some of mine. So I could survive off maybe $600/mo for my food, rest of my utilities, auto insurance, etc. But of course I typically spend at least 5-7x that, lol.

$8.97 :1orglaugh

Typically, cost of living is in direct proportion to the per capita income of a given area. I always check out answers.com for this stuff. For example, I'm in Hoboken NJ, which is in the top 100 cities of NJ as far as average income goes (#80) but a far cry from the most expensive city of Mantoloking. I love it here because rents are about half of what you might pay for an equivalent space in Manhattan yet it's closer to the city than any of its burrows and has lots of stuff to do.

Yngwie 01-14-2007 01:44 PM

$1000 to $1200 Canadian for mortgage, property taxes, oil (heat), electricity, water, house insurance. That does not include cable internet, 2 phone lines, satellite, food, smokes and whatever else.
