The easiest way is to go to the companies, which I will try today as I still have some old friends there from the old days, and see what it would take :)

Cool, let's go back to the McD/BK analogy I used earlier. You're hungry and on your way to enter BK, when someone from McD stands in front of you as you're about to walk through the door, with a huge sign advertising McD. Think that would fly? :winkwink:

Actualy, with overwriting of affiliate cookies, it would be more like.. You'd get your burger from BK, but when you where about to pay for it a guy from McD jumps in front of the BK guy to collect the payment

sperm I totaly agree with you. It is going to take us standing up as an industry to get some of this shit stopped.

I dont fancy our chances of educating the dusty fuddy duddies in congress about zango - "tinternet what?". It took months of threads on here before the majority of webmaster world got it so what are your chances with those cronies? :pimp

There are other options.

Sponsors

Implement tools in their back ends to alert to CPV marketing/zango in their own back yards - freeze everyone one they find and don't pay them out.

If a sponsor uses external processing/tracking then sponsors should push for them to implement a solution. Is NATS, for example "zango aware"? Any programmer worth their salt can set up an alert easily.

Sponsors can also set up an off network zango machine and monitor their sites for zango pops from competitors

Or use a service like AffiliateFairPlay to keep an eye on the situation.

Then politely ask the competitor to remove offending webmaster - with a video capture if necessary. Worked well for me. If that doesn't work then call them the fuck out.

Webmasters

Don't promote zango accepting/using programs

They'll soon find their lifeblood is drained away. Zango is parasitic in nature, eventually it will bleed the program dry as it depends on genuine traffic to survive.

Without lawsuits, I don't see any of the above happening soon.

Exactly and with the track record of this industry you can rest assured that there will always be a crooked sponsor ready for blood money, or a crooked affiliate ready to make that sponsor money. It will take forever before any major changes occur.

I will say this, the people of GFY are voting with their posts. The AFF contest thread keep dropping off of page 1 like a rock. What would have been a suckup festival has turned very quiet indeed.

Ben, without someone coming down the pipeline and putting money behind lawyers and auditors to go through and do a form of forensic accounting to see where all the clicks, all the sales, and all the payouts go, you won't see any programs take action.

Remember the most important part: This isn't costing the programs anything, because they still get the sales. In reality, if they are paying Zango low enough amounts, it is actually saving them money (for now) on every sale.

In the long run, as people pull their traffic, the costs of getting traffic will go up and then using Zango will be a total waste.

MrPinks 03-15-2007 09:04 AM

My sales dropped signifcantly with one sponosr, NSCash, which has me worried. The whole situation is really pissing me off.

Actually, if the visitor gets pops for other sites upon entry to their sites, it might end up costing them. Also, if the visitor doesn't come in via an affiliate link and Zango inserts a refcode, they'll end up paying a commission for traffic that should've been pure profit.

wow...then why is zango still such a big problem? i would think that would take care of a lot of the people that would be prone to installing something like that.

Unfortunatley no......

No sponsor out there will admit to anything like this!

I am working on a new E-book that will explain the whole thing.

Be a little careful with it. I might be wrong, but I think it was put up around last November in a rush of enthusiasm and I get the impression it hasn't been upated since.
