I have been using Win7 for about 3 months now and it definitely rox compared to Vista. Vista always had errors or issues with everything. I'm getting my wife started in Win7 today with her new Toshiba laptop with Home Premium loaded.

I think its very comparable to XP speed without the crashes or network/hardware glitches.

You just think that because you never seen the benchmarks. Am I right? First that you should know is that Win7 needs 2 times (TWO TIMES!!!) more memory than Vista. Now google for benchmarks and you'll be surprised: almost in any test Vista works FASTER than Win7.

Should I say that Vista sucks a lot comparing with XP? :pimp

candyflip 11-03-2009 03:21 PM

I've heard that it runs nice on ancient P4 machines. Thanks for the verification and feedback.

wizzart 11-03-2009 04:51 PM

Yes it rock but I still think it not complete jet, all big games don't work on W7 :(

What games have you run across that won't run on w7?

fryer 11-03-2009 10:36 PM

Windows7 isn't bad at all. They had to get it somewhat right this time. Vista was like WindowsME. Then XP came out which was good. Vista was rocky. Windows7 is good. The next version is bound to be bad ;]

NETbilling 11-03-2009 10:49 PM

I am curious to see a comparison from any of you that run Mac and Windows 7.
Better than the Mac OS?

trevesty 11-03-2009 11:13 PM

I'm about to buy a new machine with Win7 on it.. glad to see the good feedback.

sandman! 11-03-2009 11:15 PM

Xp was nothing like ME while windows 7 is 90% the same code as vista.

I love how people blame the OS when a six year old computer struggles to run it...guess what my 486 cant run XP either

Realgfs 11-04-2009 01:53 AM

Looking forward to upgrading to win 7, still uses XP cause vista was shit

"or much of a problem anyways"

Guess you are right. I installed win 7 one month before the official launch, my Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator friend gave me a copy.

Result: in general it works great. The safety features are great too. Fast and easy install.

Details:
  • my fairly recent HP all in one scanner printer did not work
  • Microsoft Photo Story did not work (and no solution anywhere on the internet). Actually, it refuses to install. A program by Microsoft itself!
  • a few more such obnoxious problems

More interesting: in the pre-relase version, at least the photo story worked.

Result: I am keeping my other computers on xp xp computers so I can run everything without problems.

but it can run linux, even with graphical interface.

My 25 year old BMW still runs perfectly, so why can an old computer not run nowadays? That seems to be the union of intel and microsoft to make everything obsolete.

But I have to confess that win 7 works better then Dos 3, and my old 8086 would not run any meaningful operating system any more. Actually, maybe it would run rudimentary linux.

And of course, you could leave your Dos 3 on the old computer. The problem is that Microsoft itself does not provide compatibility to its own programs. I have a book written in Microsoft Word for Dos 4 or 5 or 6 and simply it can not be converted. And now they invented Docx format. They use cunning tricks so you MUST upgrade

Or in my case, I MUST install word for Dos 5 to be able to read the book

But returning to windows 7: after 25 years, finally Microsoft did something right.

Octopus 11-04-2009 10:59 AM

I want to try it. Heard it's cool.

375media 11-04-2009 11:14 AM

i beta tested it from day one. and i have to say its the best windows OS so far.

I sold a Hummer H2 two years ago...it was AWESOME. Drove great, looked great, was a total pleasure to drive.

It's built on the exact same platform as the Tahoe.

I can assure you that driving a Hummer and a Tahoe are two COMPLETELY different driving experiences.

And having used every windows os since windows 2, I can tell you that I used Vista Ultimate 64 for the past year. I moved to Win 7 Ultimate 64 on Oct. 23rd.

The differences between the two OS's are just as big as the difference between a Hummer H2 and a Tahoe.

Vista was full of quirks. One of the worst was the way that they set up networking with Vista. It didn't allow you to run your network card at full speed. It would disconnect you at random times it you tried it. It also required you to go in and completely alter the tcp properties if you attempted to run wirelessly. Thousands of school systems that bought new computers with Vista had a nightmarish time trying to get that sorted out.

Windows 7 runs fast and clean right out of the box. They addressed all those annoyances and issues.

I also see the posts about benchmarks. Well benchmarks are good. But they don't take into account individual machines. My computer has dual quadcore processors and 16 gigs of ram. It's a monster. I ran xp 64, vista 64, and now win 7 64 on it. Win 7 absolutely is faster. I use Adobe Premiere CS4 for video rendering. I do it everyday. Vids are rendering FASTER than ever before. I use Photoshop CS4 64 bit edition. Batches are running faster. I use Thumbs Plus, batches are running faster.

Those are just my observations on my main work machine.

I put it on the machine in my bedroom too. It is a 2005 model with dual xeon processors. It's 32 bit. And was running Windows XP. But it had gotten so sluggish over time that it would take me 20 to 30 seconds just to open windows explorer to see my drive.

I could have wiped it and reinstalled xp and gotten it kicking ass again I'm sure. But I went ahead and moved up to Win 7 32 bit. The only thing I needed to do was replace the old 2005 graphics card with a new one to be able to use the Aero on Win 7. I did that, and this machine is booting faster than ever and running so smooth it's a pleasure.

There are lots of them. For example, official Russian version of LineAgeII doesn't, as many other indeed. Win7 is VistaSP3 and it sucks actually.

LOL at you :)

XP and ME are absolutely different systems. ME was build on top of MS-DOS like 3.1x, 95 and 98 and never been a real standalone operating system. On the other hand, XP was built on NT core. Windows XP 32bit (NT 5.1) has almost the same core with Windows 2000 (NT 5.0). While Windows XP 64bit (NT 5.2) has absolutely the same core with Windows 2003 Server (NT 5.2).

Go get some clue man, as we used say here: RTFM :winkwink:

Persius 11-04-2009 12:09 PM

not only does win7 ultimate run great but the quality and customization of things is great :)

Ppl need to throw away their 2003 systems and upgrade . Win7 is great for multi-tasking and fast too!

As I said above, I have Win7 installed on the computer I'm typing this reply from. I'm not a girl and I don't get wet of some nlice looking shiny things. I'm a male and used to estimate the OS by it's functionality (speed, system requirements, amount of software I can run at it etc). Thus as for now I can say that Win7/Vista still suck. Furthermore Win7 works even slower than Vista (according to benchmarks in the Net) and requires more memory to launch itself (according to its own list of requirements).

mabourque 11-04-2009 12:30 PM

I really Need it :) Vista Suck big time :error

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate few months ago and never looked back, just need to find a good Anti-virus Program, there is still no decent stuff.. :2 cents:

The Judge 11-09-2009 02:52 AM

i think i'll wait at least a year before trying it

RadicalSights 11-09-2009 03:12 AM

I've never had a single problem with Vista Home Premium.

I use Zone Alarm (free firewall)
and the default protection that comes with Vista and I've never had a single virus yet.

I also scan once or twice a week with kaspersky free scanner online.

pentae 11-09-2009 03:31 AM

I'm running Windows7 64bit on my MacBook Pro and Teamspeak 2 is not picking up my internal mic :( although windows does recognise it and it works with all other programs.. just incompatibility i suppose.

No other real complaints so far, runs Borderlands smoothly :)

ModelPerfect 11-09-2009 06:52 AM

I love Win7 x64! My computer seems more responsive than it did with XP. Faster reboots and program starts as well.

After reading lots of reviews, I decided on Avast for anti-virus, and it works great.

As for a Firewall, I like the Windows 7 version, although I use the "Windows 7 Firewall Control" which gives you greater control. By default, Windows blocks all incoming traffic but allows all outgoing traffic. With the Control, everything is customizable and allows you to block all outgoing unless you manually give permission (pretty much like most other firewalls).

Bullshit on the 2 times the memory shit. Utter bullshit. How do I know? Well I have these sidebar things in both vista and win7. Dual install on this laptop of Vista and Win7. Win7 never has a ram issue, and has always used less memory than vista does. Same machine for both on the dual boot, and win 7 uses less. Uses less cpu as well.

Do you have a win xp fuck doll or something? Honestly you are batshit crazy about a 9 year old os.. :uhoh

Jdoughs 11-09-2009 08:02 AM

I would never have anything in my computer, software or hardware, that was 8 years old.

You guys on XP need to stop 'mickey mousing' around with your shit.

Serious, there is more of you so clueless it hurts. If you havent tried the OS's mentioned, don't comment. It's pretty easy (for those of us who have used them) to see you are full of shit.

Which XP are you talking about? Windows XP 32bit (NT 5.1) of 2001, or Windows XP Pro 64bit (NT 5.2) of 2005? Could you please be a little bit more specific here? :winkwink:

I've been using Windows 7 Ultimate (was using vista ultimate) for a few days now, have to say not that much visual difference from Vista Ultimate however it is much more stable OS...

And it doesn't use twice the memory as some peeps are saying...
