It's not as big as it looks, really...the inside of the house itself is pretty normal. It's just that it has a large balcony and a triple car bay. But yeah...I reckon we'll probably end up leaving it behind.
Housing in PR is only cheap in areas where you wouldn't want to raise children. And though our house looks big, for what it is it's actually not very pricey. What really adds the price is the land it came with. It would probably be only half this price if the land wasn't included. |
Anyhow good luck to ya. Whether anyone believes you or whatever at least you answered some questions.
You have it easy tho compared to many young guys. A wife bringing in $1200. :thumbsup Fuck you awt to be giving me advice. haha :winkwink: Good luck :thumbsup |
are you related tol that guy in the basement apartment in Berlin back in 2002 that was dying? All he wanted was a pair of panties to make his last few weeks on earth livable? Maybe he was your uncle or something. Sad sad story.
|
BTW it's -15 tonight here so can we talk about my troubles now? :)
Actually I love it. Noone knocks on the door when it's -15. Nice and quiet, No barking dogs. |
No weekly, but I did once talk for five minutes to a complete lunatic who truly believed himself to be Jesus Christ. It was a little unbelievable at first, to see a completely psychotic wing-nut hanging out of a two-story window, but he was convinced that he could fly. I don't even want to get into what happened next.
Vjo, I'll trade ya for the -15 temperatures anyday. :D |

-15.. Yeah as long as you don't have to go outside everything is peachy. Seriously being a wm in MN is a sweet job. Any of you below the Mason Dixon line every go out into a ten degrees below car.
I ought to post a Hendrie bit where he comes to MN in January, it's -10 at the airport in Mpls, forgets a heavy coat and has to run about a quarter mile to his frozen car in the airport parking lot with a light weight jacket. Classic! He then talks about driving the car with literally square tires for a while after he froze his balls off (as we say up here) getting that car going. :) Oh yeah it can be a blast at -15. :) |
Hi Nodtveidt,
Sorry to hear about the house and cash flow. What are your skills online, i.e. design, programming, linux, etc, etc. You write well and all that, are you from the mainland originally or pr? Thanks Todd |
Hi Todd,
Yes, I am a native of mainland USA, I grew up in Vermont where it's nice and cold. :) I've run two semi-successful web design companies in the past, one in Vermont (Kaddash Tech/Kronos7) and one here in PR (PonteCyber), and have a lot of experience in HTML and PHP backend code (I tend to avoid Windows servers but can develop asp and aspx scripts as well). I'm not the best frontend designer but I can get the job done there as well. I can also develop Flash animation as well as Java applets (including browser games...I have two in the works right now). My main system is FreeBSD and my servers run CentOS so I'm pretty capable in the Unix department. I have some experience with graphic design, mostly Photoshop and Poser. Writing is probably my best skill; I've been a writer for a good number of years but have mostly focused on storylines for video games and anything else where high fantasy is required. One of the things I'm specifically looking for right now is Spanish translation jobs to take advantage of ccbill's new program, and to this end, I have four translators at the ready. :D |
I had the same situation while I was living in Israel with my wife and a baby son and I understand what you mean. What is your paypal email to send donations to?
|
If you're serious, it's adosorken at digitalblackie dot com. :)
What happened in Israel? :( |

I've had this account forever...it was the one I used for both of my web design businesses, and all of my ebay trading over the years. Once you have the status of a business account, it doesn't seem like it goes away. Digital Blackie Services was the name we originally operated our web hosting business under.
|
Cool dude! I have just clicked URL that paypal has in their records regarding your account (digitalblackie) and it says Reported Attack Page!
http://easycaptures.com/fs/uploaded/229/4459809155.png Nice scam! P.S. Nodtveidt you still owe me $1. Or forget it. Your not worth even $1. |
Yep, that was when our old site was compromised. I removed the offending material from the server about five months ago, yet they refuse to remove it from the database. We took down digitalblackie.com when it happened. We have not operated under that name since then, and now only operate under PonteCyber. If you go to digitalblackie.com now ("ignore this warning"), you'll get a page that says "nothing here". I think I still have a local copy of all the crap that got dumped into out account. Ironically, it was a porno scam...they were using our account to mass email porn spam.

That's what the old site looks like without the now-ancient warning that we have no idea how to get rid of. Actually, we thought it was finally gone...it stopped showing up for a little while...I guess it's back again. :( wdsguy: I'm not expecting any, really...it was just to see if anyone would help out. What I'd really like to do is work. But finding work has been difficult. |

Yeah, we don't really need TWO kidneys, do we? :D Too bad eBay doesn't allow auctioning of body parts! :) :) |
Give up posting about this and swallow your pride and go tot he local wlefare office,
In many cases they can work with your landlord or come up with some emergency money. Also if you do have to go to court make sure you show up. eviction is not automatic, everything depends on where you live. but looking for an answer here is pretty much useless |
I lived in PR for over a year and I know that it's DIRT CHEAP to live there....You can rent a house easily for 300 a month so if you're in the hole 3,000 after only two and a half months, then you're gonna have a problem.
I also know that renters don't do any background checks in PR.....If you have the money to move and they like your face, you're in..... Go into town and rent a cheap house.... |
Wouldn't it be smart to move back to the U.S. where you can at least collect disability (since you are disabled)? It's not a ton of money but at least it's something coming in every month.
|
This is sad dude, good luck!

Hope this helps you some, sorry to hear about you and your wife falling on hard times....there are allot of people in the same boat. Best wishes and good luck! Keep us updated :winkwink: |
Stay of eviction might be a good idea. Not easy to find info on PR's specific laws for it but I'll keep looking. Thanks for the suggestion. :)
BVF: We're considering just packing up and moving to Camuy where we can probably find a cheaper house. We just need someplace safe for our kids. While I was in the USA, I was receiving SSI, but that is not available here and I really didn't want to go through the process of getting disability...I wanted to work and still want to work. Right now I'm trying to work out something with the Census office...they'll likely transfer my information over the Bayamon so I can get bumped up on the list over there. Looks like they're really hurting for work this time around since they apparently underhired and are about two weeks behind in the grunt work. My wife was hired for an administrative position but has spent her first week punching holes in papers, stuffing envelopes, and building binders...things that were supposed to have been done already. :D pocketkangaroo: I'd love to move back to the mainland. :D Wifey doesn't want to though. It sure would be easier for me to find work there. JimmiDean: Actually, I'm glad I posted here...there are a lot of people who rent out properties on this forum, and a lot of people have given me some good suggestions for where to go next. I take the insults with a block of salt and look for anything positive that might help out so this has been quite useful to me and I thank everyone who's posted something helpful. :D |

Gotta be honest with you dude, the pictures do not help your case-
http://www.nodtveidt.net/house/Dsc03252r.jpg http://www.nodtveidt.net/house/Dsc03266r.jpg http://www.nodtveidt.net/house/Dsc03318r.jpg Forget keeping the house. It's a rental, not a mortgage- leaving it behind all you have to lose is your pride and some nice views. Move in with the wife's fam until you get back on your feet and then get something a little more modest, maybe even buy something so this way if you wind up in another situation where you are both unemployed you can use the equity you've built in your home to keep you afloat. |
Her family already lives with us. :D Her sister lives upstairs with us, and her mother lives in the downstairs apartment. When we first looked at the house, it had to be big enough for all of us...five adults and two children (her other sister was involved at the time too, she comes and goes every few months). This was the best house we could find for a decent price. But yeah...we're gonna leave it behind and move out, I think. I've been looking at cheaper properties in Camuy/Hatillo/Arecibo today as well as in southern Florida.

Does anyone else work to contribute to the rent? |
My wife and I handle the rent, food, her car, and her phone, and her mother handles utilities and her own car. No one else contributes monetarily. Her sister that's here full-time stays with the kids when we work, which I suppose is worth more than money in the long run since we don't have to pay a babysitter who we would never be able to fully trust and would cost too much. Her other sister...oh man, I don't even wanna get into that mess. :( Her mother works as a history teacher in Camuy, with a masters in English and a PhD in history...yet she makes less than the average bachelor's degree teacher because the DOE has dragged their feet for the past 5 years in getting teacher raises. The only reason she's stuck it out with them is because they pay for her university classes...otherwise, she would have split for Texas long ago, where she knows she can easily get a job as a bilingual teacher for higher pay.
