Is Egypt a fundamentalist muslim country? I always thought it was one of the more modern eastern countries...

nico-t 01-28-2011 12:56 PM

funny to see the US governments position on the mess in egypt by the way.... did you know they fund the current egyptian government with $1 billion dollar each year and the weapons the army & riot police carries are also from the US? Not to think of all the oil in that region, i bet they have a nice deal worked out with that dictator - just like with Saddam in the 80's.

Saw hillary on tv... "uhmm... yes... we support democracy..... but.... uhm.... yeah.." lolz they dont know what to say :1orglaugh

Agent 488 01-28-2011 12:58 PM

who cares of they did anyway?

the revolutions accelerated after the net was cut off.

only geeks think the world ends if the internet is shut off.

Agent 488 01-28-2011 01:00 PM

when the net is shut off what do people do? they stop tweeting and facebooking and go to the streets for information. that is why cutting the net off will accelerate the uprising.

They could very easily. We should have a safety net in place just in case.

interesting idea coupled with the emergence of 'ebooks'

Is it possible to write an iphone app that can act as an internet repeater? Imaging A wants to send a message to C and it goes: A<->B<->C where B is just a repeater. This would have to work without cell towers ie: peer to peer internet.

Hmmm...

The question would be how much control you have in the iphone over sending and recieving. The protocol would be a piece of cake to whip one up.

OR even better, a USB repeater. This wouldn't be dependant on any phone or computer. Use ham radio technology with modem protocols in a USB device. Ham radios can travel thousands of miles with how they bounce on the atmosphere.

Now we're talking!

Id imagine that those radio signals could easily be jammed or manipulated by the gov with todays technology.:2 cents:

egypt shut down text messaging .

i just dont see how the country could possibly operate without the internet...shipping,deliveraries,orders,paymetns,b illing etc etc would all be shut down.:Oh crap

shows how much we've lost it. that we can't understand the world without an internet. kind of sad.

"The majority of the protesters in Cairo, in Suez, in Alexandria, in Luxor, in Mahla, in Manoura and all over this ancient land which is the very heart of what it means to be Arab?are not ?twittering? or ?facebooking? or ?emailing? or even watching the landmark live coverage that Al-Jazeera is providing. They are out on the streets?and yes, without phone access?risking their lives and giving vent to three decades and perhaps more, of anger."

CNN just owned you about 10 minutes ago when they showed a tear gas canister from cairo that had "made in the usa "stamped on it with the name of the us company that made it and the state they are located..im sure you and everyone else will see this on the news... by tonight it will be all over the net/news.

Agent 488 01-28-2011 02:25 PM

let's be frank: the US funded and supported egypt up to this point because if israel.

whether new regime supports israel will determine whether it is propagandized as a new beacon of democracy or a nest of terror masters.

DWB 01-28-2011 02:27 PM

Could they? You bet.

Will they? If they have to.

The difference is, in the odd event Americans do revolt, they would be smacked down so fucking fast their heads would spin. Chaos is contagious and it is not permitted outside of the ghettos.

Agent 488 01-28-2011 02:27 PM

http://www.fas.org/asmp/profiles/egypt.htm

The United States sells Egypt a large amount of military equipment and a significant number of small arms; such weaponry is both likely to be used for internal security and difficult to track once sold. These two factors could easily enable such weaponry to find its way into the hands of abusive government security forces. In fact, during fiscal years 1996-1999, according to the U.S. government’s “Section 655” reports, the United States delivered $10 million worth of small arms via the Pentagon’s Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program and authorized export licenses worth more than $4.8 million through State’s Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) channel. Small arms delivered or authorized included ammunition and raw materials for ammunition, grenades, a variety of pistols and rifles, and riot control equipment.

If you think unemployment is bad in the US now and that they have problems, imagine the damage that would do.

Cherry7 01-28-2011 02:47 PM

If the state is at risk they will do anything to keep power....

Look at the history of strikes in the US, the use of troops, strike breakers, gansters....

Good film on this would be Harlen County

Besides any American Company can sell crowd control equipment and I'd bet our government did not sell that gear but a law enforcement wholesaler did.

Lol..and who do you tihnk owns or has a stake in that company? possibly gov fuigures?

ever hear of haliburton?

Fact: No private Us company can export weapons to any foreing nation without first getting "approval" from The US gonvernment....Also the military doesnt actually produce there own weapons..they buy them from privately owned contractors...guns from colt and browning..helicopters from mcdonalad douglas ..etc etc...i would bet that same tear gas being used in cairo would come from the the same company used here in the USA govs tear gas.....do you think that same company is selling tear gas to north korea or iran? me thinks not:2 cents:

I'd agree with you on this and was also going to post that fact. Also, it's just not riot gear. Did you know the rifle scope/optics manufacturers/wholesalers who export overseas also need to get approval from the government? Did you know if bought night-vision and sent to a conflict zone you'd be detained/arrested if caught?

My point is...that tear gas came from the USA..and our govenment approved for it to be sold...we dont sell to iran we dont sell to north korea..but we supplied them with tear gas and weapons....did anyone in the US care before 2 days ago..No..:2 cents:

1) If the USA gov felt it needed to shut off the internet for whatever reason they came up with, they could. It would more than likely happen as a national security act. If you think it could never happen, you're a bigger idiot than I think you are.

2) If you don't think the police, National Guard (and eventually the military) would not be called out in the event of full scale rioting these days, then I have to retract my statement from point #1 and say you are THE dumbest mother fucker here.

Agent 488 01-28-2011 03:18 PM

now it's time for the new leaders of egypt to open the floodgates of weapons and supplies to palestine. game on.

they could cut off the internet but so what? only a computer geek thinks that the world stops when the internet is cut off.

and no regime is immune from being toppled. history shows at the right place and time even the most despotic regime can collapse.

solders and cops aren't robots. many of them hate the regime as well and eventually give in and join the other side, as is happening in egypt now.

like i said, know your history.

as an aside, it's times like this that shows what the conspiracy propaganda that people eat up really is: a government psy-op to make one feel powerless in the face of a supposedly invincible government.
