Manwin Demands ICM Prevent .XXX Exploitation

Whatever one thinks of Manwin they definitely have the $$ to really fuck with .XXX which is good.

c'mon... 57 domains and let's say 4 variations each - that makes about 300 domains in total - it's only $90,000 to block them forever. Manwin can't afford that? :winkwink:

I can only assume that they have inflated the prices for Manwin .XXX domains as they are doing to many other popular .com sites. "Extortion" is the word that comes to mind.

Just wanted to bring that one statement to light on a more serious note.

Any decision to expect or wait for another company or individual to protect them or fight for them on any matter is a bad decision. If people feel strongly about something than come up with a way to stand behind that no matter what your situation is. Be creative, be smart.

So regarding .XXX, that's what Manwin did, but what will you do?

This is the best part:

Manwin is stepping up and saying "We aren't paying this. It's extortion. Nice.

It always helps when a larger company with the backing and legal council sets a course of action.

Homegrown did it with Acacia and it paid off for those who sat back and waited. This isn't the same situation at all as HG was fighting not only for itself but the industry as a whole.

For those without the resources of Manwin watching the outcome of their actions can help others down the road.

Maybe icmregistry paying Manwin to develop .xxx domains?
Icmregistry is looking for people that want to develop .xxx

The ICM registry itself announced a process by which trademark owners can prevent their trademarks from being registered as .xxx domains.

The ICM registry thereby acknowledged that trademark infringement is a possibility or even a threat.

The fact that the ICM Registry charges $200 or $300 (per domain) to prevent these violations from taking place could be used against them.

I don't think Manwin will spend their time building a .xxx brand that they'll have no control over and that'll forever be at the mercy of the ICM Registry.

So how do we get in on this? Or does this only work for the big dogs?

Write the ICM a strongly worded letter telling them what your trademarks are and what you will do to them if they try to profit from violating your trademarks by selling yourtrademarks.xxx.

oh, and then you put out a press release telling the world that you did...

This part is key. They aren't straight up locking horns with the concept of the .xxx extension, they aren't going to bat against the possible harm the .xxx extension may have to the industry, they just don't want to pay the fees.

If ICM gives them the .xxx domains they want free of charge it's peaches and cream.

Probabely icmregistry makes a deal with Manwin and there will be no statement made.
Than they can get the money form 1001 smaller webmasters.

Maybe unite and let everyone who wants to join pay 15 euro per domain?

the whole point is that you don't pay them any money at all.

Just let your lawyer send them a letter stating that the ICM will be violating your trademarks if they allow anyone to register yourtrademark.xxx. And then release a press release. That's basically what Manwin is doing.

The problem is most companies cannot afford $90k to protect their domain names, no less take on ICM in court.

Forgot to say, collect 15 euro per domain and hire a lawyer.

I would not hold my breath. I could see ICM giving them the domains to give the impression of acceptance, but this will probably change things.
