Whats a cool car for a 40 year old single guy?

I never had a cool car, I've always had Honda's, Toyota's, Hyundai, etc. My 40th birthday is coming in about a year and I was thinking I should get a cool car.

Im into luxury & comfort or something fun. Im not into speed (like a cramped Camaro)

Something small so its better on gas, but still something cool. Its just me, no kids, so I dont need a boat or gas guzzler.
Not outrageously expensive, middle of the road. But still fun and cool.

thoughts?

Doesn't "luxury & comfort" cancel out "something small"?

A friend of mine recently got a used Corvette. I don't know what year it is, someone knew. Her husband didn't understand her odd obsession with getting the car; They last thing they need is a two seater. However, he sat in the car and punched it and it threw him back in the seat and now he loves it.

I recently discovered the joys of used cars. That car you wanted when you were a kid you can pick up dirt cheap. I recently bought a twenty year old pick up thinking it would be great as a back up car and also in the event we need to haul stuff. I figured I might as well get four wheel drive just for kicks. I fixed it up, repainted some things, new tires and chrome, looks like brand new. Turns out our truck has been a blast - I can and do haul stuff all the time, and a trip to the store is much more entertaining when the field next to the parking lot is a huge mud puddle.

Now on Craigslist I'm seeing all of the cars I wanted when I was younger - Like a mid 80s Monte Carlo SS, old Vettes, Mustangs.... All under $5k. I've always wanted a convertable so that's next on my buck list.

Rochard 10-28-2012 11:58 AM

This is what I'm talking about.... $2k plus $2k in repairs and parts and some elbow grease:

That's a twenty year old truck, and that's before the new bumper and the paint job.

I love Acura and have an RL. It gets great gas millage and lots of room with all the options. The MDX is a pretty nice SUV as well.

I like the Audi S4 or S5, likewise BMW 3 or 5 series are great cars.

I've been looking at the 335xi's or a c-class 4matic. Need awd for all seasons and a back seat. They don't get the best gas mileage but better than some.

TMM_John 10-28-2012 12:55 PM

If you're like most of us around here and enjoy technology and computers take a look at the new Tesla Model S. Start here: http://www.teslamotors.com/models/features#/interior

It fits your better on gas requirement and it's certainly cool with the environmentally conscious crowd.

Yeah I think an Acura would be nice. Its a great name but wont put me into the poor house.
Or maybe a BMW 3 series would be good

If your ok with used, try Pontiac G8 GT, Cadillac CTS-V, Lexus ISF, M3. those should be close to your price range used. They are fun and comfortable, Luxury, not too small not too big in size

I want new.
Honestly I'll probably lease. I'm almost done with my current lease and I loved it and want to lease again.

I believe Honda makes Acura. I’ve had a couple BMW 3/5 series and a couple Mercedes. No complaints about any of those cars. I've been looking around at getting a new SUV after my son was born as I really need more room. I like the Acura MDX and the BMW X5 Diesel. Konrad has me convinced to go German and diesel.

shimmy2 10-28-2012 01:32 PM

used elise's are under 20k easy. by the time you're 40 whatever you've got just keep it clean constantly along with your appearance and you're good to go with chicks 1/2 your age. you should have a beater for doing errand running/home depot/shopping and another car for going out that you keep clean n fresh

JayS 10-28-2012 02:01 PM

How about a BMW 1 Series Coupe? The new one looks really sexy and you can't go wrong with a BMW.

Get a Cadillac!

DBS.US 10-28-2012 02:35 PM

Think about buying something that in ten years will still be cool.:2 cents:

I am sorry, but you are 40. If you aren't cool by now. A car isn't going to get you there.

Whats up? You ready for the storm in NY?

Brujah 10-28-2012 02:53 PM

The guy doesn't want a car to make him cool. He wants a cool yet comfy car because it'll be more fun.

"cool" depends on budget buddy.

johnnyloadproductions 10-28-2012 03:11 PM

Peaks at about 35, 40 down a hill. But I get 110 mpg on it.

In 5 years I'll own a ferrari f458.

Anything convertible. I was going to say the Z4 but you have repented on the two seater. Get a BMW, Audi or whatever convertible that is a few years old. You will love it. The key to keeping it affordable is girl's have no clue so you don't need an AMG or M.

L-Pink 10-28-2012 03:56 PM

Mercedes 500SL's have virtually no resale value. You can find a very low mileage car on ebay for $25000-$30000.
