The bitch should be spit on. That poor waitress prolly makes next to nothing. If you can afford to fucking eat out, you can afford to tip properly! To not do so is STEALING.

I have no problem not tipping if the server is rude or completely indifferent. But if the server gives adequate service, not tipping them is theft.

if the restaurant is unable to satisfactorily pay the wages of its workers, there should be no restaurant. pretending its the patrons responsibility on the basis that the workers aren't 'paid enough' is.. just mind numbing

I think waitresses make decent money. Even if they only make 10% of the tab as a tip, and run five or six tables an hour... I cannot begin to imagine what the average ticket cost is - must depend on the restaurant... Let's just say they make $5 tip per table, and run six tables in an hour. That's $30 an hour, plus minimum wage. For an entry level position that's not bad at all.

We went to a local restaurant this weekend, very similar to Applebees. Our first time there our ticket was lost, and we waited over an hour to be served. Son of a bitch, the same thing happened this weekend. They lost our ticket again. They gave us our meal for free, but our waitress was so much fun I gave her a $20 tip anyhow.

What most people don't factor in is the waitress/waiter has to then tipout others. This is generally 3% of sales. Not actual tips made, of sales. So this girl actually lost money for the privilege of serving this almighty cunt. And god forbid the IRS comes in a reviews the books. They won't look at that as a non tip. They will assume cash and fine accordingly.

Agreed, I also tip good but I'm sick of waiters and bartenders thinking it should be mandatory. If you get shitty or rude service why should we tip you? I know bartenders that make 100k a year.

They make more in metropolitan areas, but then the cost of living is much higher in those areas, too.

All I'm saying is it's a low-paying gig. Watch the server hustle the next time you go to a restaurant on a busy night, covered with sweat and grime (kinda like porn), and be generous when the bill comes. You never know if they have mouths to feed, or if they're facing eviction, or what difficulties they're facing.

And if they truly suck, and don't care about giving you good service, then I guess they do deserve to be stiffed. That's very unusual though - at least in my experience. Most try hard to please.

I don't disagree. There are certain expectations that come with a tip. They need to work.

But my experience has mostly been a total ass kissing and speedy service by my waiters, cuz of course they want maximum tips. They really have to fuck up for me to leave nothing, though. There can be problems in the kitchen or at the bar that can slow things down - stuff the server has little control over. I try to overlook that stuff. If they're blatanly rude, or are obviously fucking around and not doing their job, then (only then) I might stiff them.

And 100k as a bar tender? Damn. That's a pretty fucking sweet gig! Must be at a big, swanky place in a major city?

I can't think of anywhere that does not add the service fee for groups larger than 6 or 8 (depending on the place).

Adding the tip in the bill is very common for large parties. In this case, it's a chain restaurant so it's an official policy. Not the waitresses fault. In a perfect world, such policies wouldn't be necessary. But because there are so many scumbags, a server could work all night serving a large party, and then get stiffed for 50-100 or more if the customers have no moral compass. It's just a precaution to protect the server.

I did spend a number of years as a server and more in my younger years, have also owned a restaurant, toying with the idea of another and in addition to other things currently liquidate defunct restaurants and/or buy and sell their equipment so sure I'll defend them all day.

i always tip well no matter if the service is good or not (unless its reeallly bad) because chances are these people need the money more than i do. i couldn't imagine having to serve people all day and put up with the amount of bullshit that goes with it.

Actually no I didn't in my place because the bartender/eye candy took all of the orders and because of her added responsibilities and her good looks I paid her well over the norm. But I also set up my operation knowing that I couldn't afford to pay out all of the additional costs that come along with having many waiters and waitresses. It's not just the $2.13 an hour involved. I did earn $2.13 an hour or less for a number of years. Lot's of times I would work off the clock because overtime wasn't allowed yes even for $2.13 an hour servers in most corporate operations. And we're not talking Shoneys here I'm talking fine dining establishments.

I tip well. Last night at hooters for the Super bowl the waitress got 45$ from me. Bill was 150. Here 10% is customary. So I tip well I guess.

Not sure there will be a next attempt. The only reason I will is because my GF wants it and I know how to do it for low cost on the frontend. It's just the headaches that come along with it (long hours, low return, and dealing with the many like this bitch above) is enough to keep me away. But again, if I don't have to be fully involved then I may. Besides the buying out of others failed attempts is more lucrative.

Probably just her tab and each check the autograt was added. But it wouldn't surprise me if it was the whole tables tab, they spent hours eating salad, drinking water with lemon and this cunt picked up the tab and stiffed the waitress.

1) 18% auto tip is too high. customary tips are 15%, so i have no idea why applebees forces large parties to pay 18% instead of 15%. I would write curse words on my tab too.

2) a pastor crossing out the tip? OK...but leaving nothing? clearly she should be fired just like the waitress was.
