It's pretty bad. And the CEO gave a shitty apology. "The company is sorry". Like, wtf... some ONE ordered the the special mode setting, and at least a few programmers made it happen... they should all apologize, all be fired, and VW ordered to pay the $14 Billion dollar fine or whatever it was. Congrats to the EPA for catching this scam.

I wonder if they are just the tip of the iceberg and have other manufacturers being doing it as well.

the only scam is pollution limits with no science to back them up. VW did nothing wrong. They should pay nobody anything, because nobody got harmed, not even a fish. & liberals should apologize for inconveniencing them with unnecessary regulations that cause customers to have sluggish cars, so mark prince can feel like he's helping the environment. kudos to german engineering.

No extra device, just the car software detecting emission checking and adjusting the engine settings causing that emissions were temporarily lower.

name 1 single animal or plant or form of life that was in any way impacted, nevermind harmed, by excess NOx.

Aren't they also Audi, Porsche and Lambourghini? The fallout from this could effect all of those brands as well.

TDI diesels get put into a lot of stuff. They are becoming popular engine swaps for the Jeep guys as well as Toyotas that had the old 22R's even. They are pretty much a perfect diesel swap for a lot of 4x4s and cars as well.

Well, I'm sure some of the guys at VW are not getting their 8 hours per night sleep right now...
