what is the cheapest meal in your area?
I just ate a meal for 50 cents from a street vendor, its a burrito thing, I tore away the pastry crap and ate the inside it was really nice...25 dominican pesos...it took balls to eat from the incredibly crap unsanitary as shit looking, improvised glass cabinet...but I see locals standing in line so I man the fuck up and do it...it has been an hour and I feel well...
what is the cheapest meal in your area? do you trust it? |
You won't notice foodborne illnesses until the next morning.
|
One main two sides lunch platter from Walmart is under $5. Large classic pepperoni pizza from Little Caesars is $5. Besides that I can get a bag of carrots, celery, potatoes and a roast for about $20 and make stew for the week. I don't trust anything someone else prepares and would rather cook for myself. Although I do get tired of eating beef stew.

My Chinese buffet makes fresh tasty Chinese. They have a 2 meat + noodles or rice special that completely fills up a 3 section Styrofoam container for $5. I've only gotten ill from there once. The glass partition isn't high enough to keep patrons from leaning over it.

OP, you ate empanada for the first time in your life ?:1orglaugh:1orglaugh
good luck with Dominican/carribean food, one of the worst (with few exceptions though, mostly if cooker is NOT Dominican) in the world... btw decent Byrek in Shqipt is around 30-40 euro cents, I think that in Serbia around 60-70 ? Balkan food is like heaven compared to dominican one :) btw2 I once got some very nasty bacteria in DR, had to take antibiotics first time in 20 years because of this shit. It was my stupid mistake, I felt so safe with food over there that I bought WHITE CHEESE that was stored without fridge :) |
Ahahaha. Empanadas are delish! So hot.

I know LOL they have it in this white ball cheese nylon crap it is not even refrigerated and the vendor carries it on the back of his motorcycle in the sun...it is in the sun like this all day... It may have been empanda, it had that white ball cheese crap inside it 100%...theres also this yellow cheese...I think its just ex-white cheese IRL... Shqip always make good burek...but you have to get it at 6am or it is crap...you also need at least a liter of yoghurt with it to survive... |
Fourteen hours later. Still feel okay? What was inside, meat and veggies? For fifty cents I’d expect a one-bite burrito and an ounce of filling! Sounds like you got a good deal.
Cheapest restaurant in recent years is a Chinese restaurant in a strip mall. Combination plates with main dish, appetizer and fried rice for $5.50 and $1.00 for Won Ton, Hot & Sour or Egg Drop soup. (I get Orange Chicken but not deep-fried; he stir-frys it for me). I get two meals from it, too . The chef was a doctor in China, came here with wife and opened restaurants. He’ll make mine with no salt or soy sauce BUT has the brains to add garlic and spice to add flavor. Others leave it out and it’s bland. I’m afraid of food trucks or food carts. Got food poisoning at eighteen at the huge Portuguese festival. I got cacoila (ka’ser’la) or pork on a stick, barbecued with Portuguese spices, and loved it. Next night me and three friends spent hours vomiting with diarrhea. Two of us ended up at the ER with fever, chills, and more. Overnight stay and a warning not to eat protein at outdoor restaurants. But, it can happen at five-star restaurants, too. |
There is a Mexican food place that is basically a carry out only place (they only have two tables) and they have good food and a lot of options for $5-$6. There is a Thai place near me that makes a fantastic curry that is about $12 so not too terrible. Other than that, everything other than fast food is kind of high priced. It's Portland, everything is expensive here.

It has cabbage, cheese and chicken inside...god I hope that was chicken...I would compare the size to a sandwich, its called empanada as I was informed in this thread... Theres this other burrito looking thing, I also eat only the filling here, it has this white-ish substance I can not identify...it looks like shredded chicken breast but it is not...some strange shit... And then theres this dirty looking root stuff...like it was kept in mud and just pulled out...everybody keeps it on the floor!...it is some sort of vegetable or maybe a root...I do not have the balls to try this... |

To this day, she says it was the best Chinese food she'd ever had. I just bite my tongue to not make a "mom ate pussy" joke. They eat dog in China, squirrels in the Deep South, bugs are sold in gourmet markets, alligator in Florida, raw fish all over the world ..... I see pickled pigs' feet in jars here. I'm off to bed for food nightmares. |
Helpful if you tell where you're getting the meal:
NYC we have these arab street vendors - the shit is amazingly good, this spicy chicken on salad and rice. $6 |

the problem is with western culture is we are so over sanitized that our bodies have lost the basic ability to protect us
If I eat that Bangkok buffet in the picture I'll be shitting for a month, the problem is not the food its me, I go to Thailand every year and that first week I have to be super careful or I fuck up my whole holiday, by the second week I can eat with care and the third and 4th week you better get to that buffet first or I'll wipe the fucker out. Same with chilli, first week its tourist style, last week its a bowl of chopped chilli on the side, I like that numbing effect ;) |
Some bars in Spain, you order a small beer ($1) they give you free food. If you keep ordering beer you get food.
So for $5 I can have 5 beers and 5 tapas (little plates of food, not just single pintxos) plus bread and olives. |

$3 for pizza with tuna + mozzarella and onions. All cooked in a stone oven.
Not the cheapest, but well worth the $3 :) https://scontent.fsbz1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...8a&oe=5C18A4D5 |

Empanadas are actually one of the best street food there. especially if they are NOT cooked on old oil. Just dont buy no meat/ cheese that is not in fridge lol, but thats obvious lol. I recommend trying juices and milk shakes there. good but very sweet. Also, if you want to eat something decent in DR, just go where Italians live :) |
