Are We Americans Too Fat?

Okay I had to admit I had to knock off 20lbs and did so. May need to knock off another 10.

There're all kinds of weight/fat loss products out there but are we really that fat a nation?

Anyone battle the bulge and win?

Yep. We're fat and I'm heading to Micky D's. Double cheeseburger, golden fries... makes your mouth water.

One of the biggest problems in this Country is FAT

Your doing yourself a HUGE favor by loosing that weight - Great Job and Keep it up :thumbsup

Dirty Dane 06-25-2006 02:13 PM

Calculate BMI and u get the answer :)

Nismo 06-25-2006 02:14 PM

Yup, from all the bad foods we eat at fast food joints. Lots of americans eat that shit on a daily basis and get little to no exercise at all. It's the main reason why we all die of cancer in our mid 50's.

Agreed. There are enhancers in foods, to block the stomach from signalling the brain that the person is full.

Having said that...if one does not buy these foods or frequent these establishments, said design has failed and then fatness is avoided.

Hit the gym and start eating healthy (don't eat fat and fast-food anymore). Don't bullshit yourself with weight/fat loss products. You can do it!:thumbsup

It's pretty sad when you think about it. Everyone knows that double cheeseburger & large fries from mcdonalds meal deal is horrible for you, but they'll eat it 3 times a week, every week of every month. Then they die in their 40's or 50's of cancer.

http://www.nutritiondata.com/index.html

This website is priceless. It gives the food values of everyday foods and fast food stuff. It will fucking scare you how many grams of sodium are in a fast food burger.

What made my day was that I don't have to give up Wendy's Frosty's as they're quite nutritious!

I ate a bodybuilder's diet. Problem was here in California people prepare food way different than back in NY/New England. That salt and trans fatty acids caught up with me and almost did me in. Now you know why the feds made a law that trans fats have to be listed now on food products.

90% of my diet is raw food now. I miss bacon, perhaps a few strips a month as long as I eat lots of garlic. I think there's like turkey bacon or some such but depends on sodium content.

Fuckin' scary that too much of what's in our food ISN'T food. We're being ripped off. Thank goodness for Rice Cream too!

If you look at your BMI and monitor your diet according to professional indexes you'll be surprised that you can eat quite a lot as long as the processed carbs and sodium and preservatives are nixed.

I had a 28 inch waste up until my mid 30s. Most my waist got was 38 inches. I knocked that shit off real fast. With discipline I can get it back to 30 and under as I'm almost there now. Raw food was the key. Cooked meats but raw food elsewhere.

good find on that nutrition link:

i am happy to see that the only fast food i eat is wendy's chili.

truth is, it is not greasy and very high quality, probably the best restaurant chili in the world.

a tad high in salt, but a large chili is 300 calories.

not bad.

aico 06-25-2006 04:48 PM

Okay, I hate to do this, but I am about to break your heart. But, I believe a man should know the truth...

I had an ex who worked at Wendy's. She worked there a while and she knew all that went on behind the counter and after closing time.

It should make you feel a little bit better that the "chili thing" is probably among the less disgusting things she told me.

You should also know that I was a big fan of Wendy's chili. So my heart was broken, too.

Okay, you know that Wendy's big thing is that they make the burger when you order it. But during rush hour, you can imagine that occassionally they are dropping burgers on the grill a little faster than they are being ordered, just to stay ahead of the demand. Kinda like a "burger buffer".

So anyway, everyday there are "extra" burgers... meaning burgers that got cooked but not sold. At the end of the day, all these burgers are collected into a big plastic bucket. This bucket is supposed to go into the fridge every night. But sometimes, my ex informed me, it just sits next to the stove all night. After so much of this meat has been collected, to make what they call a "chiili batch", they dump it all into a big pot, add sauce, etc.... and it becomes -- tada!!! -- Wendy's Chili.

It's not quite Soylent Green, but it will give ya pause -- :)

Neither am I. I can eat like Godzilla and not get obese. Parents are same way.

Yet if you don't watch it, it's the shit in the food that gets to you.

With all the Wendy's in the world the amount of leftover beef must be enormous.

I saw that movie Soylent Green. I didn't get the ending because he said people made Soylent Green and not the factory?

The economics are brilliant. They get to sustain the level of service that they have promised, without "wasting" the "waste". They created one of their most popular menu items from what a less "efficient" establishment would have discarded.

And Soylent Green is not just people, it's DEAD people -- :)

I think we are like any nation. Some people are over weight, and some people are not. If you eat right and exercise a few times a week, you should be in good shape.

rants 06-25-2006 06:38 PM

I'm blessed with a high metabolism. I eat as much as I want and still fit in XXS and size 0. Certain brands size 0 are actually too big for me, that's how small I am.

Y'know, our American fat is worse than anybody else's fat.

For example, look at the Chinese and Japanese. They were going along swell and living 10 years more than Americans. Along comes McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast food restaurants and they started dropping like flies.

We need to remove the fat and salt from the food dammit, along with excessive sugar. That's the fucking answer.

When I'm at family and friend's houses eating a traditional Chinese meal, we eat til we can pass out. Not once a day but sometimes 5 times a day we eat. Nobody gets fat!

Same with fam and friends from Italy and Greece and Portugal. We eat all fucking day and night and no one gets fat unless they stop by Duncan Donuts and the other low carb pounding places.

Rants, me too. I mean high metab. If I didn't have such a high metab with all the food I would eat I would be 300lbs easy.

Just because we can eat alot doesn't mean it's healthy to do so.

Less ya eat the longer you live seems to be the answer. Check out the diets of the Kalahari Bushmen. Those people never get fat.

cadillacking 06-25-2006 06:45 PM

Yes we are too fat.

Rochard 06-25-2006 06:46 PM

About two years ago after looking at the pictures from the Vegas show I came to the discovery I was overweight. I stepped on a scale for the first time in years and discovered I topped out at 230lbs. I took action quickly.

I started working out every morning, and running every night with my dog. For breakfast I had Special K, salad for lunch (every day - which I hated!) and a decent dinner every night.

I dropped about forty lbs in three months.

Since my recent move back to California (and the new job) I haven't gotten back into my routine yet. I'm now just under 200 lbs, and I'm okay with this.

But yes, the US as a nation is fat. I just went to a water park - and everyone of them there shouldn't be in a bathing suit.

SomeCreep 06-25-2006 06:46 PM

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Yes.

yes, i suspected this. nothing wrong with that because it makes the chili mostly low fat due to the patties already being cooked.

In 97 the Pharmaceutical companies convinced the govt. to change the weight at which people were considered obese..
One day they're healthy, the next day they're overwright...
All of a sudden the U.S. has 29 million more obese folks..
Gotta love it..
