Hosting companies, get ready to lose a lot of customers!

http://www.amazon.com/S3

.20 per gig of data TRANSFER + unlimited fully redundant storage on amazons GLOBAL network (load balancing, locally served to your end user improves speed)

1. No need for expensive storage arrays
2. No need for maintenance / man power
3. Pay as you go! No more wasting 100 bucks a month for something like a 1gb minimum

http://www.amazon.com/E2

1. Build a brand new server, or a 1000 new server images in 10 minutes via the web
2. Pay ONLY for computing power
3. Infinite capabilities

This shit is going to ruin a lot of hosting companies and put a HUGE amount of power into the hands of developers... imagine being able to build a YouTube site that can scale overnight to meet any demand without the cost of hardware or man power

CRAZY!

if someone posted this already, fuck you i dont care this shit is awesome

Jakke PNG 12-07-2006 04:34 AM

hrm?....

FunkyDog 12-07-2006 04:38 AM

What the hell are you talking about?

"Looking for something?
We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site"

Not that it would hurt hosting companies in adult, not even poke a little with a stick.

VIPimp 12-07-2006 04:40 AM

The S and E need to be lowercase

tical 12-07-2006 04:40 AM

woops my bad :) what a buzzkill

http://www.amazon.com/s3

pr0 12-07-2006 04:42 AM

wow this thread sucks balls

pr0 12-07-2006 04:43 AM

like anyones going to pay $60 per mbps

cheekycherry 12-07-2006 04:43 AM

Can't see them being happy with adult stuff.

tical 12-07-2006 04:44 AM

as long as your content is legal you're fine

TeddyRacer1 12-07-2006 04:45 AM

how interesting, amazon getting into the hosting biz.

Jakke PNG 12-07-2006 04:46 AM

0.15 per GB used (HD space?)+ 0.20 per GB used (transfer)?
Whoopee doo.....

tical 12-07-2006 04:48 AM

60 per mpbs doesnt sound that bad to me considering you dont need storage servers, your data is available on a top notch network, fully redundant, and served up almost akamai-ish to your global users

darksoul 12-07-2006 04:49 AM

lol,
thread failure

people pay up to $30 per mbps (most a lot less)
do you think they give a shit about amazon and they'll happly pay $60 ?
what a joke

darksoul 12-07-2006 04:52 AM

but then again
a lot of people use ultradns so I could be wrong :1orglaugh

Klen 12-07-2006 05:10 AM

That is bullshit.Plus there is already many companies who offer per gigabyte expense. And they dont CHARGE per space only per bandwith so this is actualy much much expensive solution then any other.

Wiggles 12-07-2006 05:11 AM

ya but its amazon, probably be like godaddy.

Whoopee doo.....

This is a huge deal and a great service for big sites. There is no whoopee doo to it. As the OP mentioned it allows anyone to scale flawlessly to any size without laying out tens of k's.

Solid Bob 12-07-2006 05:45 AM

Hello host.

Our estimate, as you can see in BusinessWeek?s cover story, is that we?re saving $500K per year

The day i host anything with scamazon, is the day i hang it up on the net :2 cents:

Matt_WildCash 12-07-2006 05:49 AM

Would be a cool idea if they are cheap enough but it doesn't look too cheap right now.

It is cheap enough considering what it is. If you can't see the benefits in what they offer you are looking at it the wrong way. How many people just here overpay for their hosting account because it is the only package offered? How many big ass companies have way more storage requirements than normal for the amount of b/w they use? This service definately has it's place and would save a lot of people a lot of money. :2 cents:

I can count on one hand the number of adult companies that spend 1m+ / year
for hosting.
Let alone that this kind of services always fails because they're bulk,
at the volumes they do they'll never be able to provide a good service apart
from bandwidth and hardware.
But this is not hosting is all about and this is why so many hosting companies
exist. If hosting was as easy as issuing a press release nobody would survive
except the ones with big money.

micker 12-07-2006 06:09 AM

I was beta testing this for some time, and we are using one ec2 server and quite a few s3 buckets in our current system. Will it replace traditional hosting, no. Never. Not until you can get a dedicated ip, and amazon creates a better setup and management system for you ec2 machines.

What it does do is give someone a way to scale a new project quickly during testing.

Basic_man 12-07-2006 06:10 AM

I'm sure they dont allow porn!

Theo 12-07-2006 06:14 AM

looks interesting,i'll use it for some mainstream

The service has been available forever you fruitcake. You don't have to spend a million / year to overpay for hosting. I have a $100 / month server right now with a total of 16 gigs of data stored on it and a whopping 2 gigs / month in b/w being used. Now, you tell me how much I am going to have to pay to get a hosting account with you that is suitable for 16 gigs of data. Oh wait I see it on your site, only $150 for your cheapest dedicated since your pos virtual accounts hold the huge figures of 300 to 3000 MB for between $15.95 and $120.95. Now lets look at S3. Wow I need to spend $2.40 for the storage and $0.40 for the bandwidth. Even if you offered me a deal on your cheapest account to up the storage I'd still be paying multiple times over what S3 costs. As for them going down, do your damn research. They are leveraging their experience with website traffic to offer this service to anyone.

In summary, not only are you an idiot, you are an idiot with an agenda.

it would be cool if you had any clue.
Do you realize for your $2.40 you get the right to upload and download static files from that server ?
Before making more of a fool out of yourself you should make sure you
understand what you're talking about.

Solid Bob 12-07-2006 06:31 AM

By the way darksoul, I am going to go ahead and declare your ass

http://menacingmorons.tripod.com/sit...ures/owned.jpg

I'm sure you're typing up your change the subject to their stability or some other garbage post as we speak but it will serve no purpose. Everyone with 2 braincells can see where your arguments fall short.

Have a nice day.

You assuming you know wtf I need it for?

God damn I forgot how dense people here are.

By the way donkey stain, add in a $5 hosting account to serve the pages to the $2.40 and let me know how much it still kicks your price in the ass.

Thanks.

I already told you I pay $100 / month for an account I use a fraction of. Going with amazon who is leaps and bounds above your ass in terms of what they have and will host is hardly cutting corners.

Just bow out gracefully, you are going to embarrass yourself and miss the monthly quota of 3 PLATINUM!!!! packages being sold.

Machete_ 12-07-2006 06:53 AM

amazone is know for lack of support. Why the hell would you risk your business giving them your site and and traffic? are you insane?

leftybogs 12-07-2006 06:54 AM

The Url You Post Are Not Workin!!! Fuck!!!

Solid Bob 12-07-2006 06:54 AM

Sorry darksoul I wasn't being fair when I posted the first message. I didn't see this on your site:

"Additional space $2 per GB"

I didn't realize I could rent an entire 40 gig hard drive from you for only $80 per month extra. My bad.
