Nov 11 - what you SHOULD do today.
I suggest you go find a vetran today and say "thank you" to him.
If he asks you " what for?" tell him "EVERYTHING." |

I would but my Uncle the Captain has been called away by the US Special Forces. :(
|
Dunno, but I woke up on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year!

awwwwww you're so sweet http://www.insulting.com/smiles2/remybussi.gif You just gave me goose bumps all over...and I'm crying :) I know the person I will say it to :) |
I appreciate those that have sacrificed their lives to keep this country free and will gladly go and fight along side anyone to defend the USA, and was in ROTC myself in college. But my father was in the Army Reserves after the Koren war and got up to Colonel and worked in the Selective Service System and Logistics Supplies for his reserve duties, and he'd tell me how much waste and corruption there is in the military industrial establishment.
The defense department is the #1 muncher of our tax dollars. About $1 Billion per day. And I wouldn't say one bad thing other than we should be getting maximum utilization of funds on that scale of expenditures. We overpay defense vendors and contractors like crazy. And that is wrong. Plus I never thought it was right the way the top brass and Officer's Club's got so much more than the regular troops. If you've ever been in that world you'll know what I'm talking about. They have access to private jets and all sorts of perks. |
Whats ROTC?
|
ya know I would but I think the one person that I know I would say that to is probably to high to understand exactly what I was saying, let alone know what today is...
|
What is considered a "veteran"? Someone who has actually been to war, or someone who has served in the armed forces?
|
you're welcome... from a combat veteran
|
ROTC is Reserve Officers Training Corp
Here's some info. Mostly on college campuses and used to recruit officer quality men and women. http://www.armyrotc.com/whatis.html |

I get reminded of the sacrifice every day I have to watch my father-in-law deteriorate mentally and physically due to Agent Orange....his brain is slowly turning to mush and his body is falling apart....I get reminded of how poorly treated our veterans are when my father-in-law has to go to the VA hospital, get substandard treatment and often comes out worse than he went in....
So, on this day, instead of having a barbeque or just saying "thanks" how about donating time and/or money to Veterans Chairties? While a heart-felt "thanks" is a good start, take it that next step....sorry, I guess it's the sensitive liberal in me actually asking people to be charitable to those who fought and died for every freedom we have..... |
does it count if you arent American ? :winkwink: I was test jockey on the NATO fighters under desert storm - My best friend at that time got shot down, but was sawed by the British SAS - team.. guess I'll him since he is american

Im blasting Southern Rock and drinking Corona.
Quotes. "It is well that war is so terrible, or we should get too fond of it." "We failed, but in the good providence of God apparent failure often proves a blessing." Rober E Lee. :glugglug |

Whether fighting wars abroad or prosecuting folks at home, some people just aren't happy unless we're fuckin' up someone's day. (not referring to your Uncle there, just right-wing thinking in general) But yes. Kudos to all those who have literally fought for freedom. :thumbsup And a big fat FUCK YOU to those who like to trample over it. :boid |

I can say as a Veteran myself "Thank You" for all of us. I know many Veterans.........I have had the pleasure to spend time with alot of Vietnam Vets in particular. War is some GNARLY SHIT ! Imagine being taken from your home shipped across the globe to fight a war for someone else. In a place that makes hell seem like Vegas. Not knowing if your next step will be your last. Unreal !!
The stories I have heard have brought me to tears. I can recall as a kid when I used stay over my bestfriend's before football games...his dad was a Vietnam Vet.........he would wake up in the middle of the night screaming every once in a while.........or in cold sweat and would go outside to walk around. He died in Vietnam and did not know it..he too is suffering from the lingering effects of Agent Orange. As you go thru each day and make decisions........where to eat, what car to drive, repub or democrat, Remember these simple daily freedoms have been provided for you by a Veteran. Thank you all for serving my beloved country............and to those who never made it home.............................................. .............. YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN !! |

War is a product of empires and government. Without a governmental system there could be no war. Government workers obviously work for the system which creates the problem so giving self-tribute, or at least a day off is no new thing in the history of the world. Secondly, the banking system as we know it was wholly created by the Federal Reserve system, which is of course, another product of the US government. Does it still insult you? |

I served during Vietnam..I was one of the lucky ones who didn't see combat. And to those families who lost loved ones in that war and in any war or conflict.Thankyou

So, just when are you kids going to stop jerking off on the internet all day and go get a JOB.
The veterans and the other older folks (your parents) would really like to retire and not support you anymore. |
AMP: So true , so sad. Next year tell someone it is verterans day on monday..........the most common response you will get is "Do you have to work ?" Way lame .........but for some it still carries alot of meaning.
HQ .........you TRIPPER. The biggest facilitator of war is Religion......and a close second is plain human nature......Read a little history...or current newspapers...........hell ,what was the reason the WTC was attacked ? Oh yeah Government........LOL. Thats it. Curious , When clans of cave men used to war amongst eachother was it the Communist versus the Capitalist ? Or was it simply human nature that drove them to conquer ? No gov. or religion there. Current governments use the "welfare" of the country card too much. They use that to conquer.....implement your ideals.....give them association with something greater than them selves........show them your way is the best and then take what you came for and leave them in shambles. That is modern war. It is not right to just go in and kill evryone like it used to be. You don't learn spanish to try and Bull Shit someone in english. |
