What is disturbing is humans thinking they know better than nature. 12 year old girls, and younger, have been giving birth on this planet long before you and I were born, and will be long after you and I are gone, regardless what you have been raised to believe is correct or not.

Women die all the time while giving child birth. The ONLY reason this made news is because it made a great headline. How many 12 year olds didn't die that day in Yemen, or anywhere else in the world? That wouldn't make for a good story.

That said, things like that story make me want to hit my head on the desk. Apparently they also don't do c-sections there either.

Yeah I was gonna say, I believe it's wrong, but back before medieval times the average lifespan was like 25 years old. Many women, girls gave birth well before they turned 15.

I think that every time I hear one of these stories or stories of honor killings, female genital mutilation and a host of other atrocities committed around the globe. I look at my 14 year old daughter and am so grateful she has the opportunities and the freedom she has.

I am not too concerned what stone age Neanderthals in Yemen do....... the problem is when these people move to civilized countries that have advanced out of the stone age and then continue to practice their medieval barbarism there. A girl born the UK deserves to have the same rights as every other citizen regardless of whether her parents are inbred savages or not. Unfortunately forced marriages, honor killings etc. are an all too common practice in the UK...... and the authorities invariably turn a blind eye so as not to rile up the savages. :disgust

When you have your own 12 year old girl, and some douchebag gets her pregnant, you'll be singing a much different tune.

One of the very first memories I have of having conversation with my Dad was when I was about six and were were chatting in the kitchen about politics (yeah, I started young) and he told me never to let anybody tell me I couldn't be and do whatever I want based on my gender. That would have been very early 1980's America. It breaks my heart that in 2009, there are six year old girls being told the exact opposite by their daddy.

Of course it's not about death. Forced marriage is horrible, but a lot of countries still practice this. That's sad, but that's life. Unless you are going to go and try to do something about it, because I'm not, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. And even though you read about it in the news and see it on TV, you will not lose sleep over it either. :2 cents:

Nice closed western mind you have. :winkwink: My 12 year old raised in a western world, has nothing to do with a 12 year old raised in an environment that condones such things. However, if it was normal around the world for 12 year olds to do this, why would I object? Because western teachings and Christianity told me it's wrong? Sorry, I'm putting my money on nature, evolution, natural selection and the universe. Not man made laws, ideas or morals, that change every so often with the wind. If we were born 100 years ago, maybe less, your 12 year old daughter, and mine, may both be married with kids by now.

20 y.o. women sometimes die during childbirth too, 45 y.o. die much more often. Course it's sad that girl has died and course 12 y.o. is not a good age for that but life is a bitch...

Do you know what Yemen is? My mother in law is gynecologist who was working there for a few years. The people there has no idea what a basic sanitation is. They live in shit. They go to a doctor only they are almost died. You don't know how many women lives my mother in law has saved...........

Why would I have a 12 year old daughter IN Yemen? I would never have a child in such a situation, BUT if that was the way things were on a global scale, so be it. My great grandma married at 11, first kid at 13. That's the way things were then, as it is in some parts of the world today. Get over it. YOUR daughter isn't there either.
