California Dreamin' on such a winter's day (pics)

goodgirl was supposed to fly home yesterday, but when she found out it was 19, feels like 0, and it was about 60 here, she decided to stick around a couple more days.

So, we decided to use some of that time to see what makes CA the place to be. Enjoy.

You have a lot of destinations planned. I hope you are spending a couple weeks here.

I haven't been to any wineries in North or Central CA in a while. Temecula has some nice ones.

I imagine it is pretty cold up north right now and would fully expect snow at Yosemite and Death Valley will be cold enough for snow if there was any moisture.

How long are you planning on staying and where will you start and end at?

Jimmy Rock 12-10-2009 12:13 PM

great shots as usual

Twistys Tim 12-10-2009 12:54 PM

Not the nicest bit of California, but I took this picture of the pier on Huntington Beach a couple of years ago.

It is minus 5, or 22 F today in Toronto -- with snow :(

Well, I only have time for 10 days... So pretty much starting in SF, going to Yosemite (if there's no snow), spending night somewhere on the road in motel. Then going to death valley, one day there... they continue to Vegas, stay 3 days there, then drive all the way to LA, spend 3-4 days there too. And then drive by the coast to Monterey and back to SF.

I know it's pretty much packed, but if well planned I think it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, how much are the Disneyland tickets for the holidays?

Ayla_SquareTurtle 12-10-2009 02:39 PM

Blue you sit so pretty
west of the One
sparkle light with yellow icing
just a mirror for the sun

You can't do all that in 10 days if you are driving, unless you plan on just seeing the entrance to Yosemite and Death Valley. You will not have time to enjoy any of it at that rate. :2 cents:

Save part of it for your next visit.

J. Falcon 12-10-2009 03:17 PM

very nice pics as usual.

isn't a day in each of those places enough?

Fredde 12-10-2009 03:48 PM

Not Yosemite. Plus you are talking almost a day of driving to get to some of these places.

The days are shorter, so you will end up at your destination in the dark and not really get to see much.

beta-tester 12-10-2009 04:23 PM

well, i was planning on leaving the places in the early morning (5-6am), so i guess reaching the destination by 10-11 is fine...

Then, I'll maybe skip Yosemite this time. And if it's snowy there, it would be a good idea to leave that for spring or so...

Tell you what. Write down your itinerary and I can at least give you an idea if it is realistic or not. It sounds to me like you are driving way too much. The best part about a road trip like that through CA is our diverse scenery.

If you drive until 10 or 11 at night you are going to miss so much, it is sad. Seriously. It really is beautiful here and if you haven't been here before, you won't want to miss it.

dyna mo 12-10-2009 04:44 PM

those pics turned out nice, which beach is that?

i drove off the cliff coming down from glacier point in yosemite about this time of year. it was unseasonably warm so they had the road open, hit some black ice and went over the edge.

actually, it was november-ish, now that i think about it.

i would imagine that road is closed at this time of year and i would not want to miss the view of the valley from up there. i'd bet tire chains are required throughout the entire park right now too eh.

Palos Verdes, by rocky point.

JustDaveXxx 12-10-2009 07:53 PM

That is Palos Verdes or RPV near San Pedro. I used to surf those cliffs and bluff before class. I went to Palos Verdes high. Great Pics dude:thumbsup

baddog 12-10-2009 08:03 PM

I read that a couple months ago. We were going to go there today but got a late start so just did Redondo Pier. It was so overcast out on the horizon that you could not see the sun go down.

dyna mo 12-10-2009 08:11 PM

y'all ever go to walker's?
