I think NetHorse's Socialism comment was referring to the fact that Switzerland is a Federal republic which ensures the availability of social security, health care, housing and general monetary benefits to its citizens. So much so that its apart of the Swiss Federal Constitution under Fundamental Rights, Civil Rights and Social Goals as a county.

In simpleton speak its a socialized government, its been this way since 1874 and surprised more people here didn't know that. Austria, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Iceland, Greenland are also socialized government's but not all of those Federal Constitutions ensure those same rights as Switzerland.

Here's an idea. Let the judge present him with an option. This is not uncommon. He could choose between the million dollar fine, or 20 years in the can. Either choice should include him losing his driving privileges and vehicle, for life.

do you know what switzerlands gdp per capita is? even if it is a socialist country, the average swiss person even after paying tax and social security takes home more than the average american earns gross. they're obviously doing something right.

What I'm saying is basing the amount of the fine on the drivers income isnt right. Is the poor persons car any less of a lethal weapon than the rich persons car?

It has to do with the style of government Switzerland is represented by, you can take 30 minutes and go read about it, even then im not so sure you would grasp the concept seeing how you didn't get it the first time.

Penalties should be based on income. For someone that's poor and living paycheck to paycheck to survice, for example let's say a ticket of $180, can be devastating. Whereas someone who is wealthy, that type of ticket is a joke. There's virtually no accountability for rich...
