It has always been a reality in the sense that you are talking about it, theoretically. But 1kg of antimatter is a long time away, they haven't been able to keep any amount of it trapped until just recently when they trapped 38 atoms of it.

You've defined it as a threat to humanity, but you've failed to explain where 1Kg of antimatter would come from or how it could be produced.

Why not just announce that a 1200 foot long squid is the greatest threat to humanity? Or 6000 50 foot tall hamsters?

If we could create it in small amounts and use it in secure environment, we could solve worlds' energy problems so we shouldn't rely on fossil fuels or nuclear power. I think it's well worth the risk.
