They should get a political adviser. Going after PayPal, which millions and millions of people use and depend on, is not exactly going to bring more people into their cause. I would think the DoD or State Department would be more in line with what they are "trying to do."

Seems like a bunch of whiny babies really. This isn't sticking up for Freedom of Speech. This is simply acting out.

I do applaud someone's right to be heard if they are against what the government is doing, but not sure paypal - twitter etc. will make a difference, now redirect profits from oil companies to March of Dimes, Save the Whales or have it evenly distributed through paypal for and to everyone who has an account would be awesome.

This is retarded. They plan to cost paypal some money, but fact is the transfers that were suppposed to be made while the site is down will just be made when it comes back up.

Can't believe I'm even attempting to defend them but sometimes acting out is what's needed. I don't agree with them always doing shit and attacking, but in this case (for wikileaks) I agree with them. What is being done to censor Wikileaks is more criminal than the cables they are releasing. This is sticking up for free speech in their own twisted way, as it is the only way they know.

It is unfortunate for Paypal users who will experience some difficulties, and heaven forbid Twitter users won't be able to tell others when and where they are shitting, but this will pass and everyone will survive.

I hope they knock the shit out of any company who is trying to sweep the leg of Wikileaks.

Paypal sucks. But considering how they like to freeze peoples money and steal it, I am sure they have pretty solid DDOS protection. I use PayPal to unfortunately it is necessary at times, but I'd be happy to see it go offline.

It will still cost them some money. Tech Support, Support Tickets etc, some people will also use alternative payment methods. But yeah a lot will just pay later or be processed later but the inconvenience will get the point across.

Seems kind of silly to go after Twitter when they are probably wikileaks most stable form of communication. http://twitter.com/wikileaks

PayPal on the other hand. Have at it...

I am also glad they are around and have the balls to do stuff like that.

I would say though, that there may be more productive to undermine the anti-liberty efforts of paypal and twitter.

For Paypal, I would establish a coalition of paypal users who begin charging a "wikileaks tax" of say a few cents to a dollar on all paypal transactions to be donated to wikileaks, so that paypal is forced to support wikileaks anyway.

For Twitter it might be amusing to come up with alternate hash tags on a rotating basis to be attached to wikileaks comments, or even cordinate the use of an already established and trending hash tag, so as to make the twitter hash tags useless in response to their censorship.

Oh come on. They aren't doing anything for rights or for the good of the people, they just want to fuck with everyone because they have a good excuse, LOL. Damn computer nerds.

I understand the plight of WikiLeaks and I believe in any freedom that they should be afforded. I also believe that any business has a right to do business with whoever they do or don't want to. Associating with WikiLeaks, as a business, is going to be very risky anyway you want to look at it. Being associated with WikiLeaks would put companies like PayPal and Amazon in jeopardy of being attacked and screwing up their whole network... even though that seems to be happening anyway, LOL. And that's just the technical side of things, what about upset stockholders and then bring in the politicians?

At the end of the day... if you fuck with the governments of virtually every country in the world, you aren't going to get too far.

I am really not sure why people engaged in a business based on online processing and people having disposable income would cheer a group of people who hope to bring global political instability and disrupt the online payment process. Seems like people who are engaged in orderly and legal commerce would generally oppose the anarchists who hope to bring down the "system" that gets you paid.

Let me explain. It is because some people, especially pornographers, feel that freedom of speech is kinda important. Therefore they oppose any government forcing sites to close, forcing the business associates of those sites to stop working with them etc. And they champion people who challenge the government's right to try and censor the internet.

HTH.

and to continue on that note

I am not the government so I don't care about wikileaks ( wikiboring) being available or not , same as the government is not active as a porn webmaster and appearantly the gov also doesnt care about illegal porntube sites

HTH.
It is safe to assume that you support torrent sites, file sharing sites, password trading sites, illegal tubes etc. as well then. That is a fine position to take as long as you understand the consequences of you position. It is difficult to protect your property when the anarchist are in charge.

I am not questioning why people in general support these actions. I am questioning why people engaged in lawful and orderly web commerce would support anarchy and the destruction of the system that gets you paid. Seems counterproductive....... at least from a financial perspective.

If this is one of these important issues where adherence to principle (the principle being Black Bloc style chaos I guess) trumps economic interest........ then so be it. Just keep in mind that when the anarchists are burning down your business it wont seem like fun and games anymore.

thats your opinion ... if wikileaks is not illegal then why is the guy that has stolen all the information from government computers been arrested ? and is facing life in jail ?

so let me get this right , person A steals something give it to person B , then person B knowing that the material is stolen passes it on

and that is ok ?

so if I have a paysite, person A rips all my movies, gives it to person B then person B makes a full site with my material

that is ok ? Person B did not steal anything and thus his site is legal ??

Of course its not ok. Assange will most certainly be facing additional charges in the future once the investigation is concluded.

Why is one illegal and not the other? I don't know all of the legalities behind this whole thing, I think it's very gray, just curious on your opinion.

A paysite password being leaked is obviously something that is not owned by the leaker, making it illegal.

The same holds true for all of these documents. The leaker, nor the man behind wikileaks, own the content being given away for free. Is it because the rightful "owner" is the government, therefore the public? If that's the case, would the banking documents that were to be released be illegal? Those aren't government or public property.
