so let me get this right , person A steals something give it to person B , then person B knowing that the material is stolen passes it on

and that is ok ?

so if I have a paysite, person A rips all my movies, gives it to person B then person B makes a full site with my material

that is ok ? Person B did not steal anything and thus his site is legal ??
not only my opinion

So how about we steal your personal diary that contains your most intimate and personal thoughts and post it online in the interest of "free press". Then we post your personal information, a full biography of everything you thought was personal and private about your life. Then, your families information, your tax records, your medical records, your families medical records and so on????

According to people like you, there are no boundaries and should be no boundaries. Its about "free press" (whatever that means)

Many courts have ruled that Free Press doesn't necessarily pertain to information found through illegal means.

The great Sarah Palin just won such a case.

Just information?

What do you think would happen if somebody stole the source code to any number of popular software packages? It's just information. It's text on a document.

Books are just information. Newspapers are just information. Thousands of pages of research behind patents are just information. Formulas for medicine are just information.

Certainly not because a few governments didn't like to me made to look like the cunts they are so they collaborated and are shutting him down.

Oh no.

That would never happen.

Possibly so. Why aren't we seeing any of that information yet? So far we hear about Saudi Arabia wanting to bomb Iran (which many people thought anyway), the President of some country in the middle of nowhere is extremely vain, and Angela Markel is a fuddy duddy.

I mean shit... if you want to blow the whistle, blow the damn whistle.

Yeh, actually there are rights over private conversations. Particularly those that may involve national security, large economics deals, this and that, that and this.

Somebody records a visit between you and your lawyer. You're telling me that's fair game? You and your doctor. Fair game? Sure, once it's out, it's out... doesn't mean it's not illegal.

I am saying your analogy with source code and pharma patents is wrong.

Is it legal either way? I don't know...

You know it is making thing work as simple as possible that is difficult. And wikileaks has nailed it.

Watching people get so emotional over this has been funny. It is pretty entertaining. Reality entertainment at it's finest.

How do you know that? How do you know what the "information" is? How do you know what standards were used to redact it or filter it or anything?

Answer... you don't. Further, you are not calculating the harms, only what you perceive to be the "benefits" which in itself is highly subjective.

You just know that some shit disturber is thumbing his nose at the man, thats super cool and fuck the consequences.

So today its "freedom of press" to publish every private diplomatic conversation regardless of their content, harming ties between nations, disrupting trade and trade agreements, negotiations, relationships and so on and the fun position is "anything and everything is OK by me" but few seem to grasp the implications of where that thinking leads.

Just don't bitch when your medical records show up on youtube in a fun video about STDs that goes viral. After all, the uploader can just use some simplistic and moronic reasoning like "STD's affect everyone and this is a global concern"

The argument of whether wikileaks is illegal is a very grey area.

The guy that gave them the information was breaking his contractual obligation to not disclose the information. The information is public domain, simply not released into the public domain until such a date has passed (which is mentioned on all of the cables). Therfore, how can it be illegal to print something that is public domain, but just not released 'officially' yet?

I don't think that the US govt has actually officially acknowledged the authenticity of any wikileaks material... they have forbidden all govt employees from reading the information on wikileaks, but that's about all.

and that is ok ?

so if I have a paysite, person A rips all my movies, gives it to person B then person B makes a full site with my material

that is ok ? Person B did not steal anything and thus his site is legal ??
Tell me about person C ...

Yeah but if Person A steals something that was Person Cs and gives it to B to give to C is it wrong?

Police do that all the time when they recover stolen stuff. These documents belong to the people of the United States of America, they are not copyrighted and they are funded by the people. This isn't porn movies.

According to people like you, there are no boundaries and should be no boundaries. Its about "free press" (whatever that means)
