But you can be confident if the cops did not have to shoot the puppies, they would not have done so. They were pushed to do it and there are at least a dozen scenarios I can think of which prompts cops to shoot a dog.

That puppy that was said "hiding under the table" could have been ready to attack the cops. Cops are not trained to combat animals, specially pit bulls.

I guess you did not get the memo. These days it is pretty much SOP for SWAT to shoot the dogs when they raid a house like this. Especially pit bulls. It's disgusting. I keep hoping someone brings a civil suit against these pieces of shit.

there are several stories online like this. but i'm sure you know people have a tendency to go online to recant a shitty situation like this more often than those who go online to state their homes were invaded and the dogs were not shot by idiots with guns.

Yes I know human nature is to share bad stories and keep good ones secret and safe. But this was not a BS story, it was on national news media when it happened. It goes to the point that regardless of someone saying it's not SOP, they certainly kill dogs that are running to hide from them as well as pit bulls being sent to attack. Every dog is a threat when swat breaks in is the default setting. I dont have a problem believing that or being convinced that it needs to be the approach to a raid. It still sucks pretty bad because although pets are legally simple property, everyone knows they are more like family.

And completely in line with what cops do. I have a brother and two cousins that are cops and they LOVE to do stupid shit just like that.
They told me many times at family gatherings that they LIVE to break down doors and fire their weapons. It's exciting and fun for them. Total power trip.

Also one of my best friends for the last 15 years is a cop...again. He was a cop when I first met him. We became friends hanging out at the strip club that my ex-wife Melonee Mounds used to dance at.

Table full of cops that used to come in and get drunk as hell and fuck the girls after hours. We hit it off and he gave me a "get out of jail" sticker for my bumper that kept me from getting speeding tickets or getting pulled over at night, etc.

Anyway, those guys told stories nightly of the shit they did to people...mostly just for fun.

This particular guy quit the force in 2002 and became a coke dealer for the next 6 years! LOL! He supplied all the strip clubs in town.

Last year he re-joined the force and is back as a detective again.
And yeah, he can still hook you up with an eight ball if he knows you.

Those are my personal experiences. Cops are human. And just like all people do...they get a little over the top with their use of power. They all know just how far they can go, and so they go just as far as they can.

This is why I support privatizing the police...

I'd rather have individual companies serving localized areas that are in competition to provide the best service. That way when this type of shit goes down, a) police officers would lose their badge instead of being placed on probation and b) the town or city could vote to change their services to a different police force.

When the government runs a monopoly on a service it's always shitty and there's no recourse for their fucked up actions. You can't take the government to court! Well you could but... good luck. If the police force were a private company however... you could sue their ass into next Sunday if they murdered your pets. As is, cops don't have to worry about the ramifications.
