But Shepard does the main newscast everyday at FNC and he's always reported the news fairly. And Chris Wallace's Sunday show doesn't show any bias either.

Remember Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck are for entertainment and ratings (and they get them too)...but Smith and Wallace are good news reporters. I saw Shepard go off like that as well during Katrina.

Not all of them were public servants. Also many of them have been turned away by the city and have been told they have no way of knowing if these illnesses are based on something that happened at ground zero.There are also a lot of fireman and aid workers that came in from all over the nation to help with the search.

I questioned if responders had health insurance and coverage, most firefighters do, Cops do, don't they? Please answer!

Health care reform is necessary, but not one that over 200 employers and unions have been allowed to opt out of because they can't afford it

It is our responsibility to make sure those that risked their lives to save others get taken care of, you know I'm a veteran and I believe we should look after those that are deserving, but if they are covered by health insurance because of their jobs as firemen and police and other aid workers, that shouldn't have anything to do with making anyone bankrupt, it should already be covered by insurance and taxpayers shouldn't be paying for what the insurance companies are suppose to cover.

Now this is just one group of people being monitored by one hospital so I'm sure it doesn't mean that all 9/11 responders are in this situation.

Here is another about a cop :"Officer Christopher Hynes, 36. In March 2004 he was diagnosed as having sarcoidosis. However, the NYPD has refused to bestow line-of-duty injury status to him." Without the line-of-duty status he is having trouble getting the medical bills paid for because there seems to be some treatments the are not covered by his insurance.

It seems like a bigger problem is that many of these people were forced out of their jobs because they were no longer able to do them. So they no longer have health insurance, but are sick. Others have been dropped by their health insurance which happens all the time. If you get a long term illness, they cut you off. Still others have health insurance, but can't work and have no money to live on.

Regarding the Zadroga Bill, I am 100% for it. First responders have a duty to respond to any situation. Not do a risk assessment before they decide to show.

I don't know anything about specifics of the health care insurance of New York, but health care plans generally have caps, and if you have anything seriously wrong with you, you can hit that cap pretty fast.
When you get the insurance, a million dollar cap seems like a lot, but when my wife had a serious condition, we hit that cap within 47 days.

Many of these people have lost their jobs due to the illnesses they have gotten. With that loss they have lost their health insurance or the quality of their insurnace has been greatly reduced. They are on disability/workman's comp which doesn't want to cover them. that is part of the reason why this is happening. Did you see what I posted earlier. The 60 minutes piece that that a hospital is working with and tracking a large number of first responders and that about 40% of them don't have health insurance.

Also there are many republicans not supporting the bill because they signed the letter to oppose any legislation until they got the tax cut bill taken care of. A few republicans have even said they would like to look at it, but they can't because that it the position they have taken. Maybe now that the tax bill is done they will let it be brought back to the floor.

They will bring up a new bill next month without the union bail outs and with some changes and it will pass then.

Also, the average settlement was 1.2 million and they agreed not to ask for more money from the Gov't or insurance companies. They signed the contract and took the money and now want to take more money.

There's also 60,000 claims and 4.3 billion won't go that far.

Everyone thinks there insurance is great until they end up with some type of serious chronic condition or something that costs major bucks. Insurance companies don't care who you are they will pull the rug out from under you if it means better profits, just like any corporation. EEveryone thinks it's just a simple deal of giving healthcare to some dying first responders... it isn't, that's just the spin on it to demonize anyone who won't vote for it.
