3500 TV's?

I saw a samsung 3d 55" on sale at frys electronics for almost 3500 US dollars. I thought tv's had come down in price. The good news is don't like 3d so I'll be ok with a cheaper tv.

SAMSUNG UN55C8000

samsung has a bunch of different models per size and I believe the 8000 is either the best or 2nd best model. All has to do with how the LEDs light the screen, back lit versus side lit

I just bought a new 55" LED 3D TV and it cost me $3200 out the door with warranty, taxes, 2 "Chocolate" HDMI cables (heavily discounted, $120 for both), a blue-ray player (free) and a pair of Active 3D Glasses (free).
I basically got the Black Friday special price and free blue-ray and 3d glasses, but 1 day before hand because I chatted up the sales guy, plus I got huge discount on the HDMI cables ($120 each usually).
New TV's always cost around $3-$4K

Actually, I think it was the same model TV you linked to... not sure though

All the new TV's are now coming out with 3D functionality, you just don't use it though.
I don't bother with the 3D, at least not yet. Maybe with a blu-ray it'll be better once in a while for fun.

Correct. I should have re phrased the 3d on 3d TVs look like shit and is pointless. The Tv themselves look good. but of course viewing pleasure is all opinion.

I have a projector I simply cannot compare a TV to it anymore. Something about it that i personally like. (thread isnt about projectors i know)

Um, let me school you on HDMI cables.

They are all digital. Either the signal goes thru, or it doesnt. Your $120 cable is no better than a $6 cable.

Except its better for the store that ripped you off on cables by making you think you got a great deal.

Let me school you on HDMI, HDMI is just a codec and any video cable including RCA can carry 1080P.

you can crack HDMI via a chip and transfer full 1080P via RCA if the receiver is capable of receiving it. HDMI is a rip off in the first place.

if have an HDMI blu ray player and a TV that "accepts 1080P" but no HDMI, it will automatically be downgraded.

BAM

You arent telling me shit that I dont already know, but why include all of that just to confuse the guy that was talked into spending $120 on a cable by a shifty salesman. First he needs to learn that a $6 cable does the job.

TRUE TRUE YOU DA MAN.

I 100% agree with you. But i have been told under long distances thick cables it can make a difference. But hell shit in your home is not going to be 1KM or a mile down the road anyway.

I do bulk up my HDMI cable knowing the information anyway. I have no idea why but I do.

But then im ordering china $4 diff so no biggy

i got my 30ft htmi for my projector from www.monoprice.com

it was one of their "best" cables for less thern 25 shipped. reason i got the thicker gauge was because of the long run but for short runs i dont spend over 5-10 for a cable.

I always feel sorry for the people in best buy or other stores with those $75-100+ 3meter Monster cables in their hands

Definitely no on the warranty and the hdmi cables, should have been able to get all that for for $2300, TV's do not always cost 3-4k, do your research before going into the store.

TVs do always cost $3k-$4k.
I've bought so many TVs and have 4 brand new ones in my house right now.

Warranty is a YES.
I've used it multiple times and it would've cost me more than the warranty itself ($300~ usually).
Had entire TV's replaced with new models under the warranty.

Considering I just paid $2400 for the TV, $300 more in case it breaks sometime in the next THREE YEARS, is worth it (because it probably will)

What the hell are you doing to your TVs to make them break? I havent had a TV go bad on me in the past 15 years.

Got two of the 55" Samsung LED models here now, one 3D and one regular, and a 50" Panasonic plasma hanging on the wall in my office. Never had any problems with these or the several others that I had before these.

$120 HMDI cables are a rip off. If you pay more than $10 for an HDMI cable you got suckered.

It's so fucking stupid Last year I went to buy a nice new LCD, then I saw the LEDs and was awestruck at the beauty the $5000 machines provided. Now the LEDs cost roughly what I was looking at similar sized LCDs for just last fall. A year from now, as you said, you'll be picking up 3D's for $1000. I don't think I'm really going to need any better picture than what is coming through on the LED now though. That picture is tight, and 3D just doesn't interest me until they do away with the headsets. I think I'll be settled with this screen for a while...

That's where the electronics outlets really stick you. They really don't mark the sets up a whole lot from wholesale. A cable you pay $120 for though, they probably got wholesale for like $5. All the stupid extra little bits you buy on top of the TV is where they make their cash. Couple hundred in cables another couple hundred for a wall mount, etc etc.

I found out its pretty much moot to care about the cost of a tv

since its going to blow up your electric bill and you end up paying a ridiculous amount of money anyway

There is a difference in cheap hdmi and decent quality ones.

The Connector, on the real cheap ones, it tends to slide out alot more easy.

Actually newer TVs use much less electricity. For example an old fashsion 20 inch tube TV will use as much power as a newer 42 inch HDTV.

I got a 40inch LCD about 2 years ago

and its ruined my life

I imagine the newer LED TVs consume a lot less

It cost so much because it's the new "3d" thing, the tv market got itself into this whole plasma/lcd/led/etc thing and now it constantly needs something "ground breaking" to keep selling tvs like crazy.

Biggest tv I've bought was a 42in plasma for $800 in 2006 and I'm still happy with it. Never really thought about getting anything bigger or 'better'. Hell on black friday the stores had 40in LCD's for $400.

If you've got the cash to blow on the hottest new product that depreciates worse than a new car then that's your decision..
