Totemcash deletes inactive accounts

Quote:
Our records indicate that your affiliate account "**********" has been inactive or idle (no new customers referred by you) for a period longer than six months.
As a consequence, according to paragraph 6.2 of TOTEM CASH AFFILIATE PROGRAM AGREEMENT(http://www.totemcash.com/free/terms.htm) you have been terminated from the TotemCash affiliate program to 2011-05-23; you have also forfeited any funds that we may be holding based upon the affiliate account "*********".
You will not be able to reinstate this affiliate account and instead will need to open a new affiliate account in order to work with us again.

Sincerely,
The TotemCash team.
Why do they delete inactive accounts? Isn't it pretty retarded? I've had several affiliate-accounts laying around that I dont use but after a few months I found a site/products that I want to promote.

Maybe they try to save in on harddrive space now when the adultindustry turns to shit.
Or maybe they just want those $?? USD that I had laying in the account.

They can do whatever they want since it's in their terms but still, I 've never understood the reason to delete inactive accounts. It's not like I'm going to signup again if they lanch a new product.

Kills rebills for no longer "productive" affiliates.

Not condoning it, just explaining it.

dear idiots, if you can't make a sale in 6 months, you're not really in business and therefore have no business talking about business.

hahaha, too many "businesses"

The point was that it's retarded to close down a account for being inactive.

I'm a member of hundreds of affiliate-programs, I only push a very few of them hard, others I just send a couple of hits to each month and some of them doesn't get one single hit.
But I might go back to them and push them harder in the future so why close down the accounts?

because having 10's of thousands of dead accounts slows down the admin process.
Its silly to be a member of "hundreds" of affiliate programs and I doubt very seriously (and so do your sponsors) that you'll push them hard in the future.
This isn't a personal attack, its just the way it is.
I've often thought of purging our system of inactive accounts.

Is it in their TOS that they will terminate inactive accounts?

If so, sorry about your luck. Should have read the fine print. If not... it's a shitty thing to do.

Come on, any decent programmer should be able to solve this "problem", just filter out the active affiliates and stop caring about the ones that haven't sent a hit in 6 months.
You also have their emails so you can mail them and tell them about new products/sites.

I've been a webmaster since 2002, of course I have signed up for tons of affiliate-programs.
For example I've had been a member of MoreNiche affiliate-program since 2006 and I started to build for them and send them sales this year...

When asking on the board for FHGs in a niche and people tell you that you get get those galleries at ******** and *******.
Which would be your #1 choice, a sponsor you already have a account with or a sponsor where you have to create a new account?

Affiliates are a risk.
Having affiliates without any reward is counterproductive.

If they have it in their TOS and you haven't sent even one sale in 6+ months to them...
Why should they waste their time or energy on your account?

If you decide in the future you want to ACTIVELY promote them you can always contact them to start/restart an account.

It's a calculated risk.
You're on the short end of it.
No big deal.
For a sponsor, someone who hasn't made a sale in 6 months is an inactive affiliate, regardless of whether a few hits trickle in or not.
They gave you notice.
It's not "retarded" it's just business.
If they made the wrong decision, they'll pay the price.

Accounts can be moved to temporary files and then put back into the datebase
when a referral hit is received or a login occurs.

Accounts that are the most active can be "shifted to the front" for priority.

Many many ways to handle it.

But not if the programmer is fucking dumb.

This is dumb shit.

Youporn can handle a million videos, but a sponsor is fucked trying to manage
10,000 affiliates?????

Pardon me while I shit in my pants from laughter.

Talk about being shortsighted.

So even if you're still sending traffic, they shut down your account?
So even if you still have active rebills and you're on revshare, they shutdown your account?

Keeping an affiliate account active requires no effort and only a tiny amount of DB space.

Deleting 'inactive' affiliates (and keeping the money in their accounts) does cost time, money, effort,...

IMO, a company that does this looks like they are desperate and is probably going down soon.

Totemcash = shitlisted.

Its easier to delete inactive accounts than pander to someone who hasn't sent you a join in 6 months. Christ, most of your internet careers are less than 6 months.

and before you losers reach climax jerking each other off, I suggest you ask the thread starter to clarify whether or not he was on rev share and had active rebills.
His post never mentions them

That would be the problem.

But it's a programmer problem, not an SQL problem.

Rookie php programmers just blindly stuff shit into the SQL database and then
expect to pull it all out with complex query statements that cause the database
to basically "crawl itself".

So the "quick fix" is to make the DB smaller by deleting data.

Lame.

Actually quite pathetic.

Just fix the programmer instead.

Homegrown Video take on inactive webmasters...

I might of had my differences with CE but one of the many things I do give credit to them for is how they always kept webmasters in the system. Sure it meant thousands of inactive webmasters, but at the end of the day, truthfully, those were easier to manage than the ones that sent one sign up every 3 months but expected daily service considerations with zero patience for anyone else in line with the same priorities.

At the end of the day, those accounts, as long as there was still a valid email, meant a list that could be marketed to until the union of product and sales was achieved so it actually did have an administrative and marketing value to maintaining it.

Still, at the end of the day... Maybe this is just their way of telling you that you should've been promoting Homegrown all along...

We consider it our responsibility to provide value and incentive to the webmaster's so that he has no reason for becoming inactive in the first place...

We're sending an email to account that have been idle for over 6 months saying it'll be suspended if you don't login at least once, just to check you stats and show us you're alive. Then a second email two weeks after that if nothing happen saying we closed the account. I don't think that's much to ask for. We got thousands and thousands of inactive accounts created by wannabe affiliates that never sent any traffic or dropped us for years and i want to be able to focus on the real active ones.

As for our products being shit, we have been on a steady grow since 2007 with the HD version. Appart from cams and dating, who else is still there paying its affiliates more money each month? We're still the only ones (to my knowledge) in this industry to publish our top100 affiliates detailed stats each month... http://www2.totemcash.com/free/statistics.php

Now if you think your account has been closed while it was still active in any way, just hit me up and I'll fix it.

Keeping an affiliate account active requires no effort and only a tiny amount of DB space.

Deleting 'inactive' affiliates (and keeping the money in their accounts) does cost time, money, effort,...

IMO, a company that does this looks like they are desperate and is probably going down soon.

Totemcash = shitlisted.
One sale, one rebill or just one time login to check your stats in a six month period is enough to keep your account live. We're not shutting down active accounts.
