Computer geeks...I need advice

...about a week ago my computer has begun to shut down every 24 hours. It is set to never shut down and I am unable to find any malware or a virus.

Any advice would be appreciated.

go to your start menu, run and type msconfig. In there click on the Startup tab and see what's starting up on bootup. Turn off everything that looks suspicious. Reboot and see if your pc turns off again. If it does boot up into safe mode and scan through there. If it's not a virus or malware it might be an overheating issue.

Could it be overheating?

When you restart it does it say that Windows did not shut down properly?

If so it's probably a hardware issue. Could be the power supply or motherboard. I had a power supply that did that for a while.

If Windows starts normally after it powers down by itself, then it's something in the software.

Here's some advice: Go ask your question on a message board where you didn't fake your own death and come back to be the exact same idiot right after. Maybe somebody will want to help you.

I do not think that it is an overheating issue as it runs at the same temps that it had since I have had the computer and it does it every 24 hours like clockwork. Something must be setting it to shut down after 24 hours. And I have already done your first suggestion but will look it over again.

Yes. The one thing that I haven't done is do a system restore and if I cannot find the problem in another day or two I will give that a shot.

Soo...no errors in the event log then? Is it a Laptop or Desktop?

Assuming you have a Windows OS ...

Schedule a "chkdsk" to run at next bootup, the command is "chkdsk /r /f" then "Y" for "Yes". Also, run "SFC /SCANNOW" - you don't have to restart your PC for that and may need your Windows installation disk.

It will check your Windows core files integrity ...good luck.

Thanks for the input guys. I run software 24/7 and after rechecking the event logs...it may be possible that I am running to many software programs at once and simply running out of memory. I will monitor this to see if it is the case.
