What the hell makes drunks keep drinking? Do we always go broke?

I am completely fucked, here. I think it's because I drank so much, but I can't make a direct correlation between the two things. I have some really good ideas, and I think I still know how to make money.. It's been a long time, though, because I only make enough to "coast by" and then drink until I'm all but dead. Then I lay in bed for several days only getting up to puke or piss. Then I say wow I hope I never do THAT again. Then I do it again.

I don't spend all of my money on alcohol. I'm talking about the result of it. Drinking doesn't cost a-lot.

What is is about alcohol that ALWAYS pulls me back in? I don't even seem to enjoy it, or want to do it, but then BLAM I do it. The last several years flew by me like hours, shit is real, this is getting scary here

Its very easy. Some people can drink. Some People can't.

People who can't drink, but do anyways. make bad decisions and judgments. Bad decisions and impaired judgments can equal going broke.

There is an excellent organization called AA that can be of great help. Want it and seek it.

I shied away from it because of the "I am powerless, it's not my fault" and "You ever leave the organization and you're human waste we're going to shun" mentality ... it's just too cultish for me

Got anxiety or a depression?

You should try Kratom. Many alcoholics and drug-users have turned to Kratom.
It doesn't fuck you up and make you a retard, you will feel fine when you wake up the next day and you cant get addicted like with other drugs.
It makes you feel good and takes away anxiety and depression.
Dont buy extracts, they're not worth the money and those may get you "addicted". (the "addiction" cant even be compared to other drugs)

smoking weed is worse. You end up some fag with a purse for his weed, some weird hand carved hitter box, and a bong you picked up at Phish show in 97'.

Like anyone gives a shit how you made manager at some store selling high end pool supplies. Like you're some fucking expert on back yard furniture.

At least drunks keep it to themselves.

really you need to detox, do AA and stay away from booze. it will kill you quickly and in the meantime make you a drooling idiot.
paying for a medical treatment will save you tons in the long run and probably your life as well.

I stopped drinking in December. I would rarely drink to the point of being hung over , but I did drink every damn day and went through a bottle of scotch or equivalent every 2-3 days. for about 6 years.

Since I stopped I feel a lot more energetic and get more work done.

I am not making more money, but I am building things that I believe will last longer.

I am also spending less, lol I never did like cheap scotch...

"AA has worked for hundreds of thousands of people, but it won't work for me" is the battle cry of a many who wind up dead. ask charlie sheen how much "winning" he's doing lately. while AA isn't for everyone, my self-centeredness say's i'm the exception to the rule.

best of luck to you.

Its an addiction man, if it wasn't alcohol it would be something else. funny thing is, most people are addicted to one thing or another, just some are more destructive and less socially acceptable than others. 90% of society is self medicating using everything from drugs to alcohol to sex, food and a million things inbetween.

If AA works, well more power to you but i think its a joke. I can't stand the religious aspect of it. Why religion is incorporated into so many rehab programs is beyond me. religion is a driving factor in why a lot of people drink in the first place.

anyways, drunks put drinking ahead of everything. they are great procrastinators, thinking i'll drink today and get work done tomorrow but end up doing the same thing tomorrow and the next day and so on.

go to the ATM, withdraw $20 and go buy a clue.

ever been to burning man or anything that REALLY moved you? it's a powerful experience that can be best be described as a spiritual experience. no one's preaching gospels out at burning man. there's the difference. AA is spiritual. if you stuck around for more than one or two meetings maybe you'd have some semblance of peace in your life.

you can go back to your miserable life now.

AA is not allied with any religious sect. All they suggest is that the alcoholic stops trying to be "God" and that they have an open mind to other forms of higher power. Be it Karma, good orderly direction, spirituality, kindness or religion.

I did the same drank a ton always fucked me up, aa and all that is a cult last January I just did it myself and cant even stand the smell of booze won't go near it. I havent drank in a year plus wouldn't even think of it

AA sux it is a cult a christian cult with a horrible success record if you check true stats, they prey on weak people who are in sickness and withdrawal and vunerable, and that is easy and truely sick. Only way to stop is keep on doing it like you have until you realize it sux too much and stop. Unfortunelty, there is no help at least in the US all rehabs are run and controlled and fully infiltrated by the cult of aa/na and the 12 steps, they don't use science and offer no help in the end, they make a shitpile of money tho from the government, it costs like 2k a day to send you to rehab for 28 days, and costs them probably 1k in overhead.

That is one thing I don't want to mess around and get some kind of drug abuse label.. or whatever it is that they do where they label you with some mental health this or that, which everyone alive can be diagnosed with one or another of them, then they can tell you never to own a firearm

chris farley, john belushi, anna nicole smith and michael jackson (to name only a few) probably didn't want the "label" either. sadly, their actions of being a drug addict/alchoholic spoke the loudest.
