Surprisingly, or... maybe not surprisingly, no one has mentioned "Casualties of war".

A Walk In the Sun.

Doubt if it would qualify as one of the best but worth mentioning.

Used this at work

Enemy At The Gates

I once explained this movie to my boss,
"I'm not cannon fodder, I'm the sniper. Armies have their function, individuals have their function."
Neither of us work there now, but 8 years later still lunch when we can.

The world at War

It's available via torrent and has interviews with people like Hitler's secretary, Albert Spier and countless others.

Must have collection:

BBC History of World War II

http://www.amazon.com/BBC-History-Wo.../dp/B0009941E8

It's a collection of different BBC documentaries from many major parts and places of the war.

Still Fighting

Ride with the Devil- One of my favorite books made into a movie. It's about the civil war and how MO could not decide if they were fighting for the North/South. It turned into a State civil war and where the term Bushwacker came from.
150 years later they still fight. Living in KC, people from KS & MO still hate each other.
As in cop from MO fighting KS cop over who was going to bust a guy who drove drunk over the state line. The drunk snunk off, got home & free.
I've been stopped for "driving while Kansan"

My girlfriend won't watch movies I suggest, about 1/2 way through, she sat down & watched. Played it again. Now it's her favorite movie.
