I don't have one but have seen them, the Fluval brand is rather solid. I'd say go for it, they make some nice specialty kits for the nano size too. Mini shrimp aquariums and planted setups that are pretty much turn key.

Aquatic plants:
![]() ![]() Shrimp: ![]() These appeal to me because they are more specialty, but all the Fluval stuff has a nice design to it.

It's difficult to keep all the surfaces clean of algae due to the design of the tank, not to mention the enclosed nature of it is just not a very good idea.
I would especially recommend against it if it's your first tank. Those things are a bit of a joke in the experienced circles of aquarists. Fluval should stick to making filters. I've kept fish for over 25 years so if you want to talk to someone who knows what's up, feel free to ICQ me.

Those are very nice looking... man I use to have a 220gal Oceanic brand aquarium.. It lasted forever. But it wasn't nice like those are. Don't ever believe anything other than you'll have to gravel vac them now and then, though. It is the only way to keep the water nice and clear. I had the magnum pump filters and they were great but the super fine material clogs too quickly. Gravel vac and use a pump with a hose running outside or to a drain Salt water is a whore to set up.. I'd go fresh water as there are plenty of interesting looking fish you can have. I had some pacus and some tin foil barbs and some baby shark looking things a couple of oscars and dempseys and some other shit like that The pacus get so big I had to put mine in the pond I had in my patio. It was 1500 gallons and they were still too big for it (close to 3' long!) You can sell the fuck out of pacu meat if you know what you're doing, too |

With saltwater the smaller the tank the harder they are to maintain, if you're going that route. I would get the 28g biocube or something like that. There is one of those complete nano setups that has a bunch of mods available to make it more suitable for corals. I would get some zoanthids, ricordias and other mushrooms. They tend to be fairly easy to keep and grow like wild.

I'm assuming they require some sort of power for the pump and lights so I'm wondering where the cords are. The first two pics, especially the one on the glass table shows no cords so it's kind of misleading as to the setup.

You WILL get some algae, however, and with the small enclosed tank, it only makes it that more difficult to deal with. The smaller the tank, the faster ANY kind of problem will happen whether that's algae build up, heat, fish waste buildup, etc.

Used to have a custom made marine tank the whole setup cost me around £2000 pounds in the end I used a sump and Fluval filters with a Deltic protein skimmer also had Arcadia actinic and white lighting system which was set on a timer to simulate the day night light cycle. Also used a RO (Reverse Osmasis) sytem fitted in the bathroom for regular water changes as this is a real must specially with marine tanks as the salinity levels would tend to fall pretty quick. I wouldent use any other filter system than Fluval as they are damm good and reliable.

the thing I noticed is the Fluval tanks look like they are the opposite of what is best for tank design, which is maximum surface area, those are built like tall cubes, no good

Just set up another monitor and run that aquarium screensaver. Will be less expensive and much easier to maintain.
