.XXX NEWS: EU Upset at ICANN and US Over .XXX Approval

YNOT ? The new sponsored Top Level Domain dot-xxx represents an enormous concern for the adult entertainment industry, but in the grand scope of world events, it?s barely a blip on the radar. When all is said and done, however, history may record that dot-xxx was the issue that finally forced world governments to confront the veritable elephant in the living room: ICANN?s role in internet governance.

I do not think the meeting was actually today? The Press release from the EU was from yesterday at their daily midday press briefing in Brussels. I'm sure it will take a few more days until they actually meet.

At this point I can't see any of these people showing their faces at an industry event. I mean, I'm obviously not threating anyone, but I can't see Joan or Chris walking into a room without someone saying something to them...

That's not what I read. The original letter from EU to US was dated last month. I thought the meeting was scheduled for today.

YNOT article states:"Although there is little the U.S. or any other government could do to ?kill? dot-xxx at this point ? at least without being accused of an agenda that includes an out-of-control censorship agenda and a healthy dose of authoritarian arrogance ? all stakeholders want to make sure the same sort of controversy doesn?t erupt again"

Are u jokin me?

1) In the past decade the US govt always stopped .XXX . Aside from Lawley nobody complained. NOBODY.

2) By granting .XXX to only one company that would oversee all cum drenched faces, would be the biggest censorship ever in the history of the US. Silencing millions of people for just one fat pig.

3) ICANN maybe saying at meeting, " yeah, we fucked up, were sorry Gac, and will use .XXX as example so not do it again."

Wrong! Gac needs to start with .XXX. Block that shit. Because ICANN's going to try to hustle, on keeping .XXX but saying no to .sex, .pussy, .porn so ICM has the total monopoly on piss and bukkake's.

You guys do realize that the decision to add .XXX to the root and proceed with the sale of the domain names is not going to be reversed right?

The only thing on the agenda between the two countries to meet about is how to control Icann, which is now basically a runaway train.

The best anyone in this business can hope for is that the governments are so pissed off that they just block it on it's merits that it accomplishes nothing.

We can all wish anyhow right?

No one thought it would even get to that point. With GAC now saying fuck you back to ICANN.

They should be dismantled, since they'l pull the same shit with GAC, when some beefy agenda again is thrown back on their dirty laps.

Regardless of outcome with GAC, .XXX is not sailing away quietly as many would like. Because most of the public hates pornography. And since mainstream media is keeping tight lips on the subject, doubt the masses will be kept in the dark much longer.

.XXX is to fucking big to be ignored.

at this point, if the price stays at $130 a pop, its all not going to matter.

TO register a .xxx domain at a cost of $130 I'd be shocked to see them get more than 20K registrations, with a less than 50% renewal rate the following year. Since a nice chunk of that will be going to the resellers (and some to IFFOR) it would take Lawley a couple years to make back what he has spent over the last 10 years, not counting his on going over head costs.

$130 price tag is the best thing that is going to kill it. They will be so little registrations and interest at that point it will become irrelevant, will get very little media hype and very little word of mouth, hell most people wont even know .xxx exists if they stick with that price tag. It will fad away, be a flop and lessen the chances that the govt even tries to force us over to it. Thank god for dumb greed, it saved the day in this situation yet again.

$130/yr to register a domain name is steep but to anyone making serious money it is chump change.

The real fears are governmental abuse e.g.; relegation and restriction to the .xxx TLD, censorship of legal content, restrictions in private payment processing. Serious issues with large amounts of money in jeopardy.

Mr. Lawley didnt spend all the time and gear greasing to just allow his "baby" to just fade away.

The price tag of this domain is irrelevant. The onlly thing that matters is if this tld becomes marshal law.

ICM 's, Iffor do or die rules, read like a govt. Hence mandate. And to start consolidating the internet, first with pornography is not going to go unnoticed like some ninja in the night.

John Doe webmaster that makes a couple thousand a month isn't going to pay for that shit either. At $130 a pop they just priced themselves out of about 98% of the market.

And how many people are making "serious money"? And how many domains are people making "serious money" going to buy. Do that math, you not talking about a lot of registrations.

Thankfully it takes some common sense and business thinking and not just pure greed and paying people off to be successful. Mr. Lawley might not want to fail but if he keeps the price high (hell even at $60 its pushing) he will fail.

the price tag is VERY relevant. Thankfully he thinks like you do.

High price, very few people buy, the domain becomes IRRELEVANT. What makes it *easier* or more likely for .xxx to become mandatory is if .xxx is being used heavily. RIGHT NOW the govt wants to block .xxx from being used. Their thinking is that they don't want more porn sites and they don't want to legitimize it by giving porn its own tld. If it flops (which it will with a high price tag) then they will feel satisfied that we didn't fill the net with more filth just the same as if they had blocked it. Either way, less porn and us not using as a way to legitimize what we do. Hell, since the govt totally doesn't get it right now they will probably think we were stupid for not jumping all over it.

Now on the other hand, if he was selling the shit for $10 and he had millions of registrations and lots of people putting up blogs, sites etc, there was a lot of hype and it was being talked about a lot in the media, Little Johnny's parents calling their Congressman asking why porn hasn't been blocked on .com since there is so many .xx sites... If that happened the govt's fears would be realized, they would see an explosion of adult sites and the numbers that Lawley is boasting (millions of registrations etc...) and they would switch gears and say "well since we couldn't block it and there is so many .xxx sites now, the least we could do is ban porn from .com and force them to stay in their own little ghetto (.xxx) BANK ON IT. this is the way it would go down. People and the govt are way way too predictable.

If we don't use .xxx, they would rather see it fade away as a floop, the last thing they are thinking right now is trying to force us over to something that they don't want in the first place. Only if millions of sites pop up on .xxx and it becomes very popular and heavily used will they change their way of thinking.

pretty simple, stuff. Do I have spoon feed it to you ? Like I said, I'm glad Lawley and his dumbass bro's don't have business 101 common sense. Everything hinges on how popular and used the tld becomes, which is a DIRECT result of how much it costs to register the shit.

Think Stuart knows a little about buisness. He did net 10's of millions of dollars, along with making others, hundreds of millions in various online business's before turning to poon-tang profits.

No shit, nobody shouldnt buy .XXX. Why the fuck would u if your not gonna make crap. Joe Blow doesnt feel different about signing up with your "Sponsored Community" domain. Smut domains are all the same to him, he doesnt give a rats ass.

Yes lets all hope Stuart Lawley fails, and .XXX fails miserably. Most of us want that. But good luck to the ones that want their shit head senator to sneak in their "ass to mouth" bill, with their lying care for children. Since thats ICM's ultimate objective.
