Tough Love vs. Spanking - Most people think it improper to spank children, so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have one of 'those moments.' One that I found effective is for me to just take the child for a car ride and talk. Some say it's the vibration from the car, others say it's the time away from any distractions such as TV, Video Games, Computer, iPod, etc.. Either way, my kids usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our car ride together. Eye to eye contact helps a lot too. I've included a photo below of one of my sessions, in case you would like to use the technique. This works with grandchildren,nieces, and nephews as well.

My step father wasn't afraid to take care of business with the leather belt when required.

However, I took his motorcycle out once without permission and wrecked it. I was already beat up and waiting for him on the steps in the garage when he came home. He kicked the huge 750cc motorcycle across the garage and never said a word about it. Every moment for the next month I thought I was going to get totally smacked down and it never came.

Best punishment of them all really.

Any adult who beats a child with a leather belt should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for child abuse. Or beaten nearly to death with the same belt. I like that one better.

Just disconnect him in some way, time out, corner, or leave him home. Does not take violence. That feeling of being left out as a result of your actions is enough. Remember how u felt when u were left out, you wanted to do better. All children do, and positive reinforcement builds people up. Use it!

A friend of mine came up with a great punishment for his kids. He would make them stand in the corner, facing the corner and hold a book over their heads. Nothing huge,just a typical hardback book. You do that for any amount of time and your arms and shoulders really start to ache. This way they got a little time out and a little pain to remember it by. If they mouthed off while in the corner he would just add time. It seemed pretty effective. His kids are now 15 and 17 and they are two of the nicest, most well mannered, good kids I have ever met.

I've seen so many kids turn into criminal garbage and abusive assholes because they were never physically disciplined. My mother is a good example - she was NEVER physically disciplined and she treats my grandmother like an animal.

However, my father use to hit me because my mother or someone would make him mad. That's absolutely wrong.

Also, sometimes children would rather be hit than have no attention at all. I know a guy who beats the holy fuck out of his kids, but they still act out, because that is their only way of getting his attention.

But when a kid is breaking things, hurting himself, causing problems, etc... it's good for him to go upside his head or whip him on his ass. You should not over do it, either, but when a little bastard knows there are no consequences he'll go crazy. Then once it's TOO LATE he will need correction from law enforcement for the rest of his life.
