:stoned Wow This Groupon Shit Is Nuts! One offer i'm Watching Is At $200,000 In Sales And Still Going)

Fuck i am in the wrong business! LOL! $200,000+ in sales so far and still going! This isn't even on Groupon it's on a smaller market replica site called Wagjag.ca

http://www.wagjag.com/?c=66&w=20612

I believe these guys only take 25% of the total sales also... $150,000 to the weight loss centre ($50,000 profit to wagjag). Pretty good haul!! i'm sure the weight loss centre will just upsell the shit out of you once you get in there and double the take.

i know a bunch of people locally that have been approached by them, what they do is buy full page spreads in the different large papers, which would cost the business about 4-5k for each paper ad, so its doing well for them.

and you get the $$ right away after the ad finishes running since all purchases are made via wagjags site.

they cut you a nice check.

Every time I look at sites like Google, Ebay, Paypal etc. I feel like I am in the wrong business too

I think any business that makes millions is the "right" business to be in.

Group on is a good site and great concept. I've already used it twice locally, both were for restaurants I eat at and it was an 50% off deal, like pay $50 for $100 worth of food etc.

Even though group on takes a cut of the sales, it is still free advertising for the business as there will be lots of people see the ad, not buy, but visit that business later (free branding).

your brother did a wagjag promotion the last time i chatted with him back in the winter and he got great response.

when wagjag buys a full page newspaper ad how many 'offers' are on the page?

i get the Groupon emails every day - i sometimes go and take a look at the offer and what i really look at are the comments threads - wow, talk about a customer support nightmare, tons of people bitching about being ripped off or misled - sometimes legit complaints and sometimes dumb people who don't understand the offer.

such a simple idea - my real mailbox is stuffed every day with the same offers - somebody was smart enough to take it to the Internet with a little twist.

we sit here selling porn in our porn ghetto because we know we can still make a buck at it and it's safe - for now anyway - but mainstream Internet is still wide open for anybody to make millions and even billions with a simple idea, without investing millions. Porn no longer is open for anybody to make millions, there will be very rare exceptions. you don't even need to be first, wagjag wasn't first, just gotta get in early and of course you need to execute your idea well.

i'm not saying i had the idea/concept for YouTube but 10 years ago I bought some high priced domains and the idea in my head for them wasn't far off from what YouTube became. if i'd had some work ethic i'd have built out the site, made no money of course, but when YouTube exploded i'd have been in the game to capitalize on YouTube's success.

.
This is very true. With mainstream something can go viral and catch on fire and blow up over night. That doesn't happen with porn.

One thing certain with mainstream is pretty every month a new million dollar site is born and explodes, some new concept is released, and people making serious money.

Actually they take a lot more

Your company eats the tax on the deal, and gives Wagjag 50% of the sale price.
If you take the option where they include you in their newspaper advertising, they keep 100% of the selling price.

It works well for services, less so for tangibles.

Even still, it's a great way to get customers in the door- rather than just impressions.

I think the newspaper option is a bit of a scam- it's run by a newspaper conglomerate, so they have little expense, and you don't get much promotion from it. It's essentially an ad within an ad.

This is what you get for 100% http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...x=-109&ty=-263

wtf - so if i own a hair salon and do a $25 offer for $50 worth of services deal - WagJag takes everything - and now I'm on the hook for giving 200 people $50 worth of services and I don't make a cent? Stupid deal, the money it cost to service the 200 WagJaggers, you could buy your own newspaper ad and get some new customers who aren't cheapasses.

There are loss leaders and 'free stuff' to drive people into a store but you don't see retailers giving away free products WITHOUT having to pay for something else.

My sister used Groupon on her brick and mortar business and generated 2000+ sales.

They want 50% of the money, but negotiated 40% of the sale price. They usually pay you over a longer time but also negotiated to be paid out 90% of the money within 30days.

You can set up the terms and conditions. One of the conditions made in this deal was that anyone purchasing the offer had to be a "New" customer. If they were already in the database then they would have to be refunded by Groupon.

Bottom line, they gained 2000+ new clients, of which Groupon says about 20% will NEVER use the coupon offer before it expires, and they have been able to upsell almost every one of the new clients that have come in.

Its not just Groupon anymore in the US market. Groupon has a huge backlog in many business categories in most major cities, so its created a huge market for Groupon clones to thrive and some such as buywithme.com livingsocial.com weforia.com and savemore.com are filling in the gap. You've also got clones like eversave.com and dealpulp.com that focus more on group deals for websites rather than offline businesses.

I know many local business owners in the Los Angeles area that don't want to wait the 6 months to a year to get their Groupon campaign started so they turn to some of the other major players who now have a huge membership base like Groupon. If you assume each business offers their product or service at a 50% discount, then Groupon takes their 50%, the business is essentially only collecting 25% of their offer. If you factor in non redeemed deals by 20% of the buyers on average, then they are probably looking at closer to a 30-35% return. For many types of businesses with fixed overhead expenses who rely on volume of new customers, these Groupon offerings make perfect sense. Plus they get all of the sales up front even though many of the coupons might not be redeemed for months down the road. For a young startup or a cash strapped business, its perfect.

However, for other businesses who view the Groupon as a "loss leader" or an avenue to brand their service locally, it can be a big mistake that can negatively affect cash flow for months. I've seen some businesses abruptly have to halt their campaign in the middle because they had no idea so many people would buy it so quickly and they didn't want to get caught not being able to fulfill all the new customers. Here's an article about a business who had a negative experience with their Groupon offering http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/219257

For those of you who view the Groupons as just a bunch of junk offerings, then you haven't been paying attention or live in a small market. Between Groupon and all its clones, I've bought over 50 offerings. Everything from restaurants, massages, trips, contractor services, car washes, oil changes, gym memberships etc..., all things I would have normally bought, but at a 50% + discount.

Great example of how it can be a win-win for both the business and the consumer. I've been hearing more and more about Groupon starting to be more flexible like your example. With their competitors growing fast and some instances offering the businesses a greater cut than Groupon, I figured they were going to have to start working with the business owners. I especially like the stipulation that the Groupon buyer has to be a new customer, I haven't seen that before.

If you could get a Groupon clone going for Porn site memberships I bet you would make some money. Surfers might join and retain if they got a deal. Surprised no one has jumped on this.

Just heard this on the radio today

http://groupdudes.com/mobile/index.php?view=dealToday

Basically just deals for guys, whereas most groupon deals are focused more towards women. So lots of deals on golf, beer, mens clothing etc... Brilliant!

Great idea, I think there's going to be plenty of room for niche type deal sites to pop up and thrive.

Interesting thread, I have always wondered how a groupon type site could work for online businesses that offer a service. Thoughts?

Looks like Groupon is wasting no time striking while they are hot and filing for an IPO. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Its-he...sset= &ccode=
