Do you ever stop bashing shows? Do you know how hard it is to put these things together? A lot of work to put on a show. If you can't afford to be there, then you don't need to lob these comments non-stop at the people who DO put on shows.

And no, consistently staying at home and missing out on opportunities to network face to face with people from your industry is NOT a good approach to running a serious business. It's a good way to work on an irrelevance award, though.

I have to agree here. We have done almost every US show for the past 12 years and consider it a new experience almost every time. Of course, not every show is a success but we typically come away with meaningful meetings, networking and exceptional branding for our company.

Yeah things have changed... lol... a lot. You seem to be describing a trade show floor experience, first of all. None of our major industry shows have a trade show floor anymore, and haven't for a while. Shows aren't just about someone trying to sell you a product. There is nothing wrong with that.

Long before I was involved with a show myself, I attended other shows on a regular basis... and almost always came away with something positive. I could go on and on about the benefits of attending shows whenever possible... but suffice it to say that there is a huge benefit for many of us to get a chance to network face to face and get a feel for the people we may or may not do business with. I'd generally much rather do business with people I've met than someone I've never met.

Being Negative about shows or things in general in this market, is rather counter productive. These shows are what you make of them, you can party hardy, which some people still do , or come away with something, you can turn into a business opportunity
