When I see politicians screaming to raise taxes on the news (both local, state, and federal officials)...I just shake my head.

How the fuck do you "raise taxes" on a country with almost ten percent unemployment?

Who is gonna pay these taxes? The "millionaires" and corporations?

I think instead of "raising" taxes, they need to simplify the whole damn thing with a flat tax. Or better yet get rid of the income tax and go to a national sales tax. That way companies like General Electric would actually PAY some taxes instead of paying no taxes (and spending tens of millions on accountants and lobbyists) because of exemptions in the GIANT tax laws.

I can't even do my own taxes. I have no idea HOW. I've had to pay an accountant for the last 15 years. I can only imagine how insane the tax code is for big companies.

Bring home the military. Stop spending money that isn't there. And do something about the tax code.

Just yesterday I saw Oprah mentioning that she gets audited so often that the HARPO building as a dedicated area setup for the auditors to come in and do their thing. They're always there and she figures they might as well be comfortable.

I know a lot of Fortune 500 companies have full-time government auditors with offices in their headquarters, but I didn't imagine someone like Oprah, who only has a few billion, would get it so often.

its funny how the rabble talk about historic tax rates.
I'd love us to go back to any tax system of the past along with all of the loopholes. The idiot rabble are clueless to just how good they have it tax wise at the moment.
you want to go back to the tax rates of the 50s? I'm all for it. The 60s? sure. Under Reagan? yeah.
you fools are clueless about what you want.

Paul 'The Progressive' Ryan's budget plan is a fucking joke. It offers no reform. If congress was serious about financial reform they would go with Rand Paul's budget plan.

But they would rather have people arguing about two plans that are basically the same, as they rob you blind, while people from the left cheer for slightly faster robbing than the ones on the right.

50-60's the tax rate was double today... Reagan even said his tax cut was a mistake.

Personal tax %'s and %'s paid by corps is at a all time low, in like the last 100 years.

How little you know of history... corps were a right, granted by the people, authorized by the State, and DID NOT MAKE PROFIT for the owner(s), they were ONLY created to benefit the people, and everyone that owned it, was 100% responsible for every action taken by the Corp.

So lets go back... when they didn't tax your corp/profits, where the State/region took a cut of your entire company, to allow you to do business, while restricting the amount of profits to the owner.

You should learn history. The tax payer was PROMISED that the TOP tax rate would never go above 10%.

Quote:
In 1913, 358,000 returns were filed which was 2% of all households. While the top tax rate was 7% on incomes above $500,000 ($10.9 million in 2010 dollars), the first $3,000 ($65,331 in 2010 dollars) was exempt from the the income tax for single persons.
Do people need to pay taxes on their first 65k? Is that tax more than 1%?

The problem isn't taxing, it's all spending, both GOP & Libs don't want to loose any power, they will always spend more than they have to keep themselves dug into our skin forever in the biggest possible government they can think of, only the people can say enough is enough.

Quote:
A tax policy that confiscated 100% of the taxable income of everyone in America earning over $500,000 in 2006 would only have given Congress an extra $1.3 trillion in revenue. That's less than half the 2006 federal budget of $2.7 trillion and looks tiny compared to the more than $4 trillion Congress will spend in fiscal 2010. Even taking every taxable "dime" of everyone earning more than $75,000 in 2006 would have barely yielded enough to cover that $4 trillion.

At some point, everyone will need to stop pointing fingers and realize that regardless of who is fault (and it is all of them) they need to stop spending and stop borrowing even if it means your local planetarium wont get funded.

We all at least agree on one thing, the run away spending has to stop and we need to pay down our debt.

However, the current plan is to pay down debt by inflation...this never works. Common Sense seems to have gone out with day glow clothing. Unlike day glow clothing, I hope common sense returns but from who? No one with a brain wants to govern this country. The smart money is on business, not government.

Yep, they did all that...

And the other side was in the backseat swilling beer screaming "yeaaaaah buddy!" the whole way.

You know, except when the roles were reversed.

If you're going to with history, then our income shouldn't be taxed at all, and if it is, it should only be temporary.

Then some of the first personal income taxes, didn't tax the poor, at all, not even a tiny bit. So when we had no income tax, it was only the rich paying, on the personal business they did, as that's who owned property and traded slaves.

Yes and yes... not sure how that's an error.

P.S. By 1917 the top tax rate was almost 70%.....

Aye... all of them are controlled by corporate powers, the same corp powers pull on all sides, they run it, lead it, make the laws, rules, they start/profit from the wars, they increase or lower our taxes, they control the local/state and fed, they created all the regulation we have today, they pushed it through, they allowed it... our gov has zero control at any level anymore, actually... most gov's don't.

The corp is the only person in America that can break laws, over and over and over and over and over and over again, help enemies, give them weapons, they can directly kill Americans and have... and never go to jail for it - if they are in the power seat!

They are the power holders... everyone else pulls the strings for them.

They are controlled by themselves and only move to one side or another when greed or profit or a power grab is at stake, doesn't have to be a corperation, they are moved by themselves.

Greed is what drives them, they can't take power without corporate backing, and everything they do, 100% of everything is for profit, every law, idea, everything done is for the benefit of them, either directly for money or for image/show which translates to more money.

Every member of congress has personal investments, and those investments, not just on average, but they always beat the market by 5% or more. They take the insider information they get, use laws/rules to benefit them and the corporate powers pushing them, based on the insider information provided by those corps and private deals, to sway the entire economy, tax rules, regs, rules, laws, etc to benefit them fully, while doing it with our tax dollars.

We the people no longer control anything..... people also called corporations do, we gave up all of our powers and handed it to them.

How one can believe the corporations, wall street, and bankers, control the government and wants the government to tax more and for government to be in charge of your health care and to over all be bigger is beyond me.

Why dont you get your facts straight shithead.

House of Representatives approved NAFTA on November 17, 1993, by a vote of 234 to 200. The agreement's supporters included 132 Republicans and 102 Democrats

NAFTA passed the Senate 61-38. Senate supporters were 34 Republicans and 27 Democrat

Hmm looks like the MAJ was passed by the GOP. Suck on them nuts.

We aren't at war with Libya, the U.N. is doing a mission and we are part of the U.N. and by our own Congress, the President doesn't need approval for anything that falls under the U.N. Charter.

I've posted proof here several times when this topic was brought up. It is without question a fact.

Every time you hear the media, whoever it is, say anything about congressional approval, they're feeding you a load of shit to stir up shit.

No different than what the Republicans are doing with this stupid vote on not funding it... well, we aren't funding it anyway, we fund the U.N. no mater what - based on Congress, and then the U.N. pays for it - we never do directly. All they're doing is blowing smoke up America's ass and people are inhaling like mad.

actually NATO is doing the mission. & there has been an expenditure of hundreds of millions of dollars to launch missiles/fly drones & do everything except for boots on the ground. Tech has now redefined "war" into a grey area where Obama believes drone attacks are not "hostilities" But tell that to the people on the ground who have drones flying over their heads. We are using military hardware over a sovereign country, killing our enemy. How anyone can argue those are not acts of war is beyond me.

Because Doc is too busy carrying Obama's water to call him out for the war crimes (war of aggression to name one) that the UN, Nato and US forces are committing in Libya.

Again, I have to wonder WHO are they going to tax?

It pretty much can't be the middle class...it's already overtaxed and out of work due to high unemployment.

So that leaves the "rich"? Anybody making over 200,000 dollars a year?
Well, my income is over that by far. But I'm making about 1/3 of what I was making 4 years ago. At the end of the month after paying all my bills, I have just enough left over to put towards my quarterly taxes now with a couple of grand left over for fun.

So now they want that too?

What the fuck am I working for?

Like the Beatles sang: "I'm the taxman, and your working...for nobody...but me"

you want to go back to the tax rates of the 50s? I'm all for it. The 60s? sure. Under Reagan? yeah.
you fools are clueless about what you want.
yep, taxes were high back then but there were lots of loopholes thats are now closed so companies could avoid paying taxes pretty much completely.

Question: What would the government do with all that tax money if the taxes increased? Simply not owe money? Would people see ANY benefit from the government?

I honestly think it's too late for the debt problem to be solved easily by something like a tax increase, and the spending is really the underlying issue anyways. The government needs to get leaner.

It was the UN security council that approved the mission in Libya, our NATO is part of the mission, which is how it always works.

That's the ruse... yeah if you take out what our military is using as a cost, it's an expenditure. But that's now exactly how it works. We've already funded & set aside arms for these conflicts, anything new coming is paid for by the U.N., through our funds and others. Then we profit on the arm deals, troop pay, etc.

Edit: We do fund transportation, repair, and the actual systems our military uses.

The issue with that is, the Fed never removes the money coming back in off the books, so it looks like money is always going out. We pay out some billions to the U.N. and when we profit back, it's through our Military or Corps, which never report back to the fed (because they aren't a bank) on what was earned.

Yet we profit by the billions.... it's just the tax payer is of course screwed over, we pay for it, corps make the profits, we pay for it again down the road.

If drones are people then so are airplanes, they are after all being controlled by people, other than one guy can be on the other side of the world doing it.

I'm just glad he's not using the war terror crap to do it. And no, I don't agree with the shit going on in Libya or any war/conflict or nation we are in, for any reason.

Sorry, just because you don't like the facts doesn't mean I'm carrying Obama's water.

I find it odd you enjoy being naive and brainwashed.

Now we're talking about war crimes?

no worries. i simply think both sides are to blame for the mess. Repubs carry a little more blame overall. But dems are not doing shit to solve anything. How many jobs did the stimulus bill create for 700 billion. how does a health care bill that does nothing but force the uninsured to buy insurance from price gouging insurers solve anything. Both parties are destroying the middle class because the belt way & wall street are insulated by money & a sell out to globalism.

We haven't spent 700b, yet.... and not all of it was for jobs and it's other purpose was to save jobs, which it did do, hell it saved entire States school systems from failing. Point being, it was much more than just a job bill.

If you have a job, you pay for people with no insurance through your local and fed taxes already, at extremely over priced rates. And when that's not enough, they get money directly from the State, ie: our tax dollars again.

Can't argue with the rest... it's turned into pure scum running the ship.

That's 100% correct... even under Clinton when we did skyrocket in tax revenue, the Gov did not spend any less money, they spent more, every year he was in office. It's been this way for about 30 years now, revenue up or down, the Gov spending goes up. This last year, is the only year that the percentage of increase was lower than the average growth trend, but that damn sure doesn't mean we're spending less.... it's just not growing as fast.

That's something I've asked myself over and over.

They took that stimulus money and bailed out banks. And they helped save teachers jobs (though some of those are questionable lol)

The root of the problem was the housing industry failing and houses being foreclosed on.

Property taxes pay for schools.

Instead of just giving banks a big bailout loan that ultimately did nothing to help the housing crisis which started it and didn't long term save the school jobs...
Wouldn't it have just made more sense to take that 700 billion dollars and pay off all the single family home mortgages?

That would have more than "saved" the banks. People would have kept their homes. Property taxes would still be pouring in to pay for the schools.

Instead...people are still losing their homes in record numbers, schools are now beginning to make the inevitable cuts because of less property taxes (less homeowners), and the banks won't loan shit to anybody.
