Please explain how ERIC LINDROS is on the hall of fame ballot??

Sure he was big.. but he has accomplished nothing. Never won a championship, Never won a scoring title I believe..short career with concussions. Oh and lets not forget HE REFUSED to play for the team that drafted him in the Quebec Nordiques. That alone shows selfishness .

Not to shabby huh? http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...y.php?pid=3158

That coupled with the fact that he did some major donating and charitable work.

Quote:
With his imposing physical strength and playmaking ability, Lindros established himself as the top player on a Flyers team that had perennially been in contention but always fell short. His time in Philadelphia would see him score points at a phenomenal rate (for much of his first 5 seasons in the NHL, Lindros hovered around 4th all-time in points per game) and become one of the most feared players in the NHL. In September 1994, Lindros succeeded Kevin Dineen as Flyers captain. Along with John LeClair and Mikael Renberg, he played on the dreaded "Legion of Doom" line. He scored over 40 goals in each of his first two seasons and won the Hart Trophy as MVP in the lockout-shortened season of 1995 by scoring 29 goals and 41 assists in 46 games and leading the Flyers to their first playoff appearance in 6 years. He led the Flyers to the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals, handily defeating Pittsburgh, Buffalo and the New York Rangers in 5 games apiece. But in the Finals the Flyers were swept in four games by the Detroit Red Wings; Lindros' only goal came with 14 seconds left in the 3rd period of Game 4. In 1998, Lindros, only 25 years old, was ranked number 54 on The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players of all time. The only player of comparable age was No. 37-ranked Jaromir Jagr, who was 26 at the time.

He was a standout player for quite a few years, a great playmaker and goal scorer.

I guess that alone is enough for the hall of fame deciders. (more of a question than a statement of fact)

no.. a real hockey fan would know why not...

there's arguments for both sides here as he did a lot of scoring in the time that he did play, but if players like Mark Mcguire and Barry Bonds not making the hall of fame in baseball I'm content with Lindros staying out for hockey too.

The case for Lindros isn't necessarily stats-based, although he's 18th all-time with a points per game average of 1.14. It isn't awards-based, despite having both a Hart and a Pearson in the truncated 1994-95 season. It's impact-based: Lindros was one of the dominant, game-changing forces in the NHL during his time with the Philadelphia Flyers in the dead puck era, before concussions cost him his career.

I can definitely live with this explanation. I mean really, was he a standout marquee player? Did he attain fame in the hockey world? Did he make an impact on the game in any way? If the answer to any of that is yes then why not include him in the hall of fame?

Otherwise let's change the name to the Hall of Stats.

Lindros won't get it, but should be looked at for sure. Art Ross winner, Olympic Gold, World Cup...
He would have done so much more if not for his injuries too.

Kevin Lowe, Jean-Guy Talbot, and Larry Hillman all look ripe for induction this year too.
Belfour? bah... maybe next year. Or the year after that.

first, they put anybody who had a half decent career on the ballot, look who's on the ballot for the first time this year with Lindros - Tommy Salo, Frederik Ollauson, Mike Ricci and MATHEW BARNABY

back to Lindros, BEFORE the concussion problems his points per game average wasn't far behind Mario Lemieux. He was as dominant as anybody, no player ever had his size and skills. he had a bad habit his entire career, from kid to NHL of looking down at the puck - because he was so much bigger, stronger and skilled he got away with it, players bounced off him ......... UNTIL he started playing against men like Scott Stevens in the NHL.
His brother suffered the same fate even quicker.

He's a very interesting case for the Hall of Fame, Sandy Koufax is in the baseball Hall of Fame as are some others who had short dynamic careers like Lindros. If Eric had quit sooner rather trying to hang on he'd be remembered for what he was in Philadelphia as the center of the Legion of Doom line.

I'm not sure if he has a chance, is it the hockey writers who vote for the hockey Hall of Fame? I'm not sure how well liked he was by writers, a lot of people thought he was a snot nosed spoiled kid. Always seemed decent to me, he was raised upper middle class which isn't typical for most NHL players, and he didn't dumb down to fit in.

his first 7 years, he averaged 1.39 points per game - which is great but I thought it was higher.

Eric Lindros was a dick, and his parents were assholes. They put themselves above the game. Then Karma paid him a visit in the guise of Scott Stevens.

Funny thing is, if the crybaby actually signed with the Nordiques he probably would have won a cup.

Great talent. Smart as a rock. A very stupid rock.

Because you're idiot and he was one of the best players in his prime. Probably because he won Hart and you learned how to break on skates just 3 years ago. Probably because he was on Canadian national team and you play in I-league.

Irrelevant on if did change anything. We were talking about it being good old school hit that would have been a clean hit if no-one got hurt. But what would a fucking band-wagon noob know about old school hockey?
