:mad Someone jacked my CC info and bought plane tix from south america?

My gf was ordering shit online, so I gave her my Amex number. The site was secure and this is the ONLY place that the card has been used that is different than the norm.

This took place on Wednesday... Thursday afternoon I get a call from Amex that they believe there has been fraudulent activity on my card... some $16,000 worth

Some idiots bought plane tickets from South America to Mexico then to Los Angeles then to San Diego. Why? They were bought from some South American airline then the others were bought by American Airlines... but wouldn't the airline decline the person from getting on the flight? Or why would someone try to do that, have to be pretty fucking stupid.

Thanks to Amex for covering my ass on this. One charge went through to Mexico City but the others didn't. I sure HOPE those thieves are stuck there now with no money and no flight

I buy tickets online for women with last names different from mine all the time. Getting the tickets at the gate is no problem. I don't know how much scrutiny the airlines give the persons ID if any. It would take some balls to do it though because for hours you are basically trapped once the crime is committed.

they made the transactions and Amex called me within an hour, so there is a very slim chance they were able to pick up the tix unless they were sitting outside the airport

you can't sell airline tickets. once you buy them with your name, they charge you HUGE fees to change the names

And do you think the entire world knows that? I'll bet you there's some poor saps that fell for a similar trick only to find out it was useless.

People who buy shit like that are either desperate or really dumb.

Was it a credit card or debit card? That's what I don't like about debit cards, your money is out of pocket until the bank resolves the problem.

Some piss pour gas station boy or waiter at restaurant could have scanned/cloned your card and used it afterwards . It happened to my bro and he never uses his debit card online.

I just had 8 grand ripped off a couple months ago by someone who made a fake debit card(with pin) from ripping off my info -- somehow. I still don't know if it was at an ATM, gas pump or a convenience store. Who knows. Anyway, these fuckers bought 8k worth of Best Buy electronics, booze and groceries all along the west coast.

Chase refunded my account.
