Seriously that makes me happy. I always think I am alone with Coop but if he is your style he is great. Very edgy and out there with really nice melodies.
And some of the best musicians of the time in his band. Notice on one song, Luney Tune at the very end the drummer "winds down" by going progressively slower and slower finally ending on the perfect beat. You just dont hear that. Fantastic musicianship. Coop gets a bad name cause his shows are out there but the music is first class stuff. OK my 2nd to last choice coming up. No pics this time that will be easier. ![]() Still up: My remaining two choices The Stones And The Beatles are always up for some love. ![]() |

![]() #2 Black Sabbath When it came to partying even Floyd prob had to take a back seat to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. One of the absolute hardest rock bands at the time and the forerunner to the Nirvanas, ect. This music is qausi acid rock. It is not like normal music on acid and hallucinagens but not quite electric like floyd and heep. But it could freak you out none the less in 1973. The music really holds up well and still is very gutteral and moving. The band is led by lead guitarist Tony Iommi who was prob the brains behind the band. Ozzy is a good performer an intricate part but Iommi knew music. ![]() we already played Sweet Leaf give it up, an anthem to millions think ill lose my mind if i dont find something to pacify my second choice and a truly fantastic beginning (i am iron man) original with great fidelity imo one of the best songs with a true Iommi feel this excellent song steps up the hardness songs like Electric Funeral and Orchid and N.I.B go from here and are much more "hard" a great song - hard to stop at 5 ![]() ![]() |

![]() #1 Led Zeppelin original group: guitarist Jimmy Page singer Robert Plant drummer John Bonham bassist John Paul Jones There is no doubt in anyone's mind that LZ is a top 10 Classic Rock group of all time. It is almost a religion to some, or it was, since I am the only old guy who is coming out to tell you how things once were. ![]() The guitar (Jimmy Page) is the reason why the music came alive on psychadelics. The constant, rythmic strumming in such a perfectly synced way made the music appear to the mind to almost be computer generated (this was 1973) which was a testament to Jimmy Page as well as Ken Hensely (Uriah Heep) as well as the guitarist for Pink Floyd, Roger Waters. That is my theory anyhow. Their guitar work is so good it fools the mind into thinking it is perfectly synced and then becomes electric to the mind. This is the FIRST theory on this that you have read ANYWHERE and probably correct. ![]() ![]() My first choice of course, was prob the most played song ever incl at every county dancehall as the finale for the night. Every up and coming guitarist had to know how to play it if they were ever going anywhere. And it was a daunting task to master as well. The song still moves me. And makes me high naturally. It is hard to sum up greatness so without further delay my top 5 Zep tunes.. there's a feeling i get when i look to the west 20 million views in 2 years ![]() ![]() aaaah so much emotion and memory in this song [Led Zeppelin 4] a kick ass "lift" song, played heavily at parties [Led Zeppelin 4] billion guys found comfort in this song [Led Zeppelin 4] great song with a great vibe [Led Zeppelin 2] about to click this next one? great song ![]() back then true Zep heads knew all albums as you had "Led Zeppelin 1-4 and Houses of The Holy" being the classic albums |

Coming up: The Rolling Stones
The band will be in the break room for a while ![]() They will play at dawn on the 4th of July. On a July Morning. That is a concert with LOTS of warm up bands. ![]() And you dont think it was hard keeping Richards occupied all night as the promoter of this thing. Guy is smoking ALL my best shit. ![]() Anyone under 30 with me? Anyyyyyyyyy one??? ![]() is there anybody in there? is there anyone at home? |

#1 The Rolling Stones (MP's final choice)
When you think of The Stones ya think of really one guy. Jagger? No, I would say Richards. His superb, original slide and rhythm guitar is what makes the Stones the Stones. Mick Jagger sings well but Keith Richards is The Stones. The focus will be on songs with superb KR in them. Ladies and Gentlemen, Please Welcome, The Rolling Stones best Stones song of all time, a summer and a city song i once seen or dreamt of Jessica Hahn dancing to this at a party it was so erotic and intoxicating that it puts this song to #2 simply a fantastic song with Jagger really excelling on vocals the best later song, simply fantastic, so carefree and casual this was one of the last great rock songs ever written we are closing in on 1990 at this point the guitar work in this excellent song assures it #5 simply one of the best songs ever written i love this fucken song lots of Richards in this melody an exceptional song I wish my father's generation would have taken me to the 40's and shown me what music he liked and what it was like. It would have been a rare thing. It is a rare thing. That is what this thread was all about. To show you something you were maybe unaware of as well as to celebrate America's Birthday with the freeest (is that a word ![]() Perhaps time will never allow you to appreciate it, just as the music of the 20s - 40s drives me bananas. ![]() I have proven one thing and it is a shame. Music is NOT truly timeless. To a very few maybe but to the masses NO it is not timeless. I always thought McCartney, Lennon, Young, Waters and others would live on. But the interest is getting less and less every year until they are relegated to the same place the 20's jazz to 40s swing ended up. Dead and unlistened to. With that I turn away from the younger generation forever. I turn to my peers and my old buds now in there 40's and 50's and 60's (just a couple in thier 70's, After 70 they are in the other gen who really never listened to music much or who listened up to the mid-later 60s at the most.) We were there. But I guess we cant really bring it back to share. It was for us and us alone. I hope you got something out of all my work. ![]() Thank you. Elvis has left the building. |

Vjo!!!!!!!
4th of July and I'm still rockin' - Led Zeppelin is #8 on my list. Oh reasons, I got reasons..... but I'm a little younger than you Veej - maybe five years, and back then "five years" was like an entire generation. No? Listen to the differance between 1972's Uriah Heep and 1977's Styx. Hah! Anyway, I didn't have the "living memories" of all this music, I was too young. But I knew something was wrong with me even at ten when I was listening to The Who, Stones (yes, even Zep) while others were grooving to The Cure and New Order. ugh. Anyway, will refill my scotch glass now and get through some of those great Stones songs you posted Vjo!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() I never worked so hard for so few views ![]() ![]() My friend is about your age, maybe a few years older (mid to late 40s) and he is still totally into the old school. I don't know how far it goes back until the masses no longer like the 70's and soon to be the 80s. Oh well at least we got a thread we cam bmark and maybe catch a tune to give us a lift. This thread was classic rock's final curtain, on gfy at least. I remember a few years ago there were still a few old schoolers around who would post a vid or two. Now maybe about 5 of us are left. Me, you, ADG, CH (not sure of his age but he gets points for at least posting something) Harvey, a couple others maybe and that's it. Noones fault, time is just passing us by. When I listen to some of these songs I cant understand why they are no longer popular but it is a generational thing I'm sure. Yes, as I mentioned, a big change in 1975. I think the Eagles, One Of These Nights album (altho a very good album) was approx the turning point. Mind you I love the 80s as well as the 70s but some people just arent able to enjoy both decades. Like a sunset when the shadows keep going further and further and slowly cover it all up... This is the generational shadow now coving the 70's and about to cover the 80s. When the 80s die, (another 10 years) we will then be left with nothing but junk. We will be the geezers who noone understands or relates to and time will have passed us by. This thread was the last hurrah. One last chance for the Walsh's, the Plant's, the Osbournes. We gave them our best shot at one last promotion as they gave us their best shot in the studio 40 years ago. We could of had a lot of fun in this thread if it was a 90s or 80s thread and if others would have participated more. That was the idea. A festival of music on the 4th of July. But noone wanted to play anymore. So with that, classic rock and pop is now dead to the masses on GFY. Sad day. I am taking my guitar and going home. ![]() This world is no longer ours. Time has passed us by at last. something touched me deep inside the day the music died Thanks to Mister Peabody, ADG, Captain Howdy, Harvey, Spunky, and last but not least, perhaps the only young guy under 40 to post in our thread.. Caligari. Thank you very much for participating in my last music thread. Love for you all. I tried. ![]() Alice Cooper (Vincent Furnier) says it best goodbye ![]() |

Rock and roll will never die, nor will it ever forget. Besides, it's the Fourth of July Weekend, when even the biggest GFY "loosers" are out having a life (or pretending to). Summer sucks for these kinds of threads mate - wintertime, when it's too cold to go out, is best IMHO. Maybe we'll resurrect this one next winter, a kind of reverse hibernation. Heh We're a fragmented soceity these days, by design I believe. "Divide and Conquer" as political strategy. Ah well, so be it. I've cried my tears over this subject for far too long, and ad nauseum. So instead, one day, I will start my classic rock Blog, already created in my mind, and we'll unite whoever is still out there with brains and a heart, and a soul open enough to "get" Joe Walsh. LOL I'm too damn young to feel this old. Wanna know something REALLY fucked up? I was saying the same thing fifteen years ago, in my twenties. At a Pearl Jam concert, fully aware the clock was ticking and I was probably at one of the last true bands true concert experiences, for whatever it was worth then. Tick tick Kurt Cobain BOOM! Anyway, 'Exile On Main St." still moves me, as does 'Quadrophenia", and "Aja" and "Houses Of The Holy" and "Even In The Quietest Moments" and "Bookends" and "A Question Of Balance" and "Transformer' and 'Hunky Dory' and 'Tea For The Tillerman' and...and...oh fuck, it'll have to wait for the Blog. I'll email you offline, non-GFY-like, when I need a writer(s) Vjo. ![]() Good-bye. Cream 1968

![]() ![]() I shouldn't have made it about "classic" rock and "drug use at the time" and instead just about music. MIGHT have got more interest. But I doubt it. Lot of guys just arent into music on an adult chatboard. Kind of like trying to talk car repairs on a cooking chatboard. ![]() ![]() I should have posted two vids and three lines of text like everyone else does. Then everyone could come along put there 6 words in and the thread would have been over in 2 hours like all the rest. Another shit thread. I try and create something good and it gets some respect but no PARTICIPATION. THAT is what bothers me. Waste of time to try and create something worthwhile around here. Like you say, I could have wrote two music blogs with all I wrote, instead I just created a temporary entertainment that will be dead and gone tomorrow. You can lead a twenty year old to UH, BS, The Stones, ect but you cant make em drink. ![]() Regarding your point, At 40 you begin to notice things slipping away. At 50 they are gone no matter how much you scream from the mountain tops. ![]() I just wanted ONE young guy to say, "yes I listened to Uriah Heep (or whoever) and I get it, I enjoy it". Spunky enjoyed Alice but Spunky is my age. ![]() Oh well. ![]() "Rock and roll will never die" True ![]() Maybe I'll switch gears and just post some shit I like.. ![]() great fidelity Maybe I'll tell a pizza story which really explains when and why it all changed. altho this is in my sig this song fucking rules even tho it is very late 80's or is it even early 90's? have to look it up.
songs like this show me that I dont have to go too far back to find some guys now in their early 30's who get it. It is uplifting to hear a more modern rock song that is really well done. Tremendous song ![]() Band formed in 1991, song is from 1993 ![]() spark it ![]() |

lol I just got done listening to that one.
![]() Some of you were born while the folksies were on psychedelics dancing naked to tsrts. You are about 40 now and THAT is why you are so cool. Seriously. ![]() 1967-73 (now age 38-44) .. MP!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() When it came to drug use these guys had their diciples. You would sit and listen to MB albums and go through all kinds of emotions. Some is VERY melancholy. Some is VERY euphoric. Moody was correct. my fav Drugs was all there was to do in the 70s. If you watched enough Bonanza, Brady Bunch and Partridge Family YOU would do drugs too. All my old pizza buddies were also born 67-73 which was why they were so cool. |

Led Zep's The Ocean for example is getting mixed reviews on YT. That is kind a funny. Not all are in love, but most are. LZ The Ocean is some waaay diff music than whatever is out now. Whatever that is. What is out now actually. ![]() Oh yeah some winey rap inspired garbage with some winey chick wining. ![]() I did like Frank Sinatra Is Dead tho.
