To anyone just starting out with OpenX...
Just in case anyone is thinking about using OpenX for rotating their ads...
The big question is whether or not you are going to give each advertiser their own account or if you are going to do it all under one single account. From what I have experienced thus far... It is far easier to put everything in one account, then create campaigns based on ad type and niche. You should really think about creating a "system" or schema for how you will do this... For instance: 300x250 babes softcore 300x250 babes hardcore 300x250 babes dating/cams 700 wide babes softcore Or... babes softcore 300x250 babes hardcore 300x250 etc... This is going to be important later because you are going to link campaigns to ad zones. So in site1, a softcore babe site, you would create ad zones: *x* sidebar *x* footer wide *x* dating/cams I used *x* in the example because not all of the banners will actually be 300x250, but might instead be 300x225, 285x300, etc, but they are all going to fit into the "sidebar". Now lets say you want to add more Twistys banners and you don't want to have to "add" them to the zones in the sites... No problem if you didn't create separate advertisers... Just throw the banners into the appropriate campaigns for the size, niche and subniche. They will automatically be added to your sites because OpenX matches campaigns to zones and not necessarily banners to zones... Anything you add to the campaign will effectively get auto-added to the zone(s) linked to the campaign... ---- This time lets flirt with the idea that you created separate advertisers. If you are just now adding Twistys to the admin, you are also just now adding the campaign and therefor it won't have any zones tied to it. Now you have to tie the campaign to 10?, 20?, 200?, 2000? of your sites zones? Fuck me! So... Keep that in mind when you set things up... Anyone have thoughts to share on this? ..... I know... I know... V_RocKs just made a business thread... fuck me! |

I have read a few other posts from V_RocKs since he started using it and I am becoming more inclined. Sounds like lots of work so anything I can pick up from others can be very useful. |

If I did it all over again...
1 advertiser. campaigns would focus on ad size/type|niches|subniche if any Saves a HUGE amount of time when setting up a site... Then you can link the sidebar dating zone(s) to one campaign for all dating/cams in the babe, ebony, asian, whatever niche. With multiple advertisers you end up having to link each one's campaign in that size 1 at a time... It gets tedious... ex-gfs for example... how many affiliate programs? 12 so how many times do you link per zone? 12 now multiply that per site? 12 and you get? 144! And that is just THAT zone... lets do the other 11 on those sites and make this 1,728! Or... with just one advertiser and combined campaigns? 144 total... A big bullshit with this is that you cannot copy a zone from one site to another with all of the campaigns too... or even in the same site... that just blows... |
