I wasn't planning on watching it, but I thought my son might enjoy it because of the dinosaurs, so I put it on. He walked away about 10 minutes into it (before they even got to Tera Nova), but the wife and I kept watching. It was actually pretty good. So much so that I set my DVR to record the series weekly.

I haven't heard if it was good or bad yet, which most likely means it was lame. Too bad.

It wasn't to bad at all, the cgi (for the dinosaurs and stuff) was really well done. I plan on watching it again, nice to see it was filmed in Australia as well.

Couple aussie actors in it I see as well.

Hated it. Would have been good in 1999 or whenever Jurassic Park came out. The effects are on that level. Writing and acting are horrible too. The world they left to go to Terra Nova would have made a MUCH cooler show.

Honestly? It sucked. The mother character looks too young to have kids that old (I guess they're around 17-18?), it was predictable as well. But pretty much all actresses are hot, so I think I'll keep on watching it, lol... Just for the lulz.

It was ok, however the CGI really sucked (except the dinosaurs).. I mean the CGI quality in Stargate Atlantis series (which aired 7 years ago) was a lot better and that was running on Sci-Fi not on FOX

Its ok, im a sucker for those types of shows to begin with, so i'll watch it through. I dont see it surviving on network television, though. Maybe sci-fi will pick it up after it gets canceled.

I felt like they are trying to capture something along the lines of what Lost did wiht it's viewers. Lost had me more intrigued in the first 15 minutes than this show did in the first two hours.

Terrible show. Poor CGI, writing and acting.

Stargate on SyFy channel had better special effects.
Fox wasted 20 milions on a show that will be canceled by the end of this season.

I really don't understand what ppl are comparing the acting to. The acting was fine. If you cant get into the story you cant get into the acting. Perhaps thats the problem. The show was fine, I will watch again. I'm about a story, as long as the actors don't look like they are happy when they should be sad I don't see an issue. 7 or of 10...decent show... I feel dinosaurs were overdone when they tried a jurassic park 3. But they put a new twist on the genre with the time travel. At least now it makes sense with humans being next to dinosaurs.

As for one of the posters saying the future they left would have made a more interesting show. I agree that setting would be cool.

Yeh, it wasn't bad, but I was a little bored and some of it was really cheesy. The scene where the commander was hopping on and off that jeep was terrible.

I also thought it was kind of weird that they destroyed the world and discovered time travel within the next 100 years. They should have made the setting a little further into the future, although that part of the story probably isn't very important overall. Just one of those details...

I think its possible within the next 100 years or so with the way tech is progressing at such a rapid rate. Think of where we were 30 years ago and the break throughs we have made since which will allow us to progress exponentially. Factor in the break throughs just on the horizon and the conflicts we constantly face today and the earth's tipping point is easily within reach.

I won't go into details as many haven't watched the show yet but what concerns me is many of those elements that helped destroy the world were still present in their " new beginning ". Make the same mistakes and you get the same results which gives me little hope. I'm surprised they didn't show someone smoking a cigarette

NOTE: Spoilers below (as if this show could be spoiled)

I thought they did a great job creating multiple plausible worlds and societies, with great detailed settings, and many of the creatures were pretty cool, particularly the non-meat-eaters. But . . .

What kind of fucktard is seeing dinosaurs for the first time and is mostly interested in their personal domestic issues? I think people would at least be like "wow, dinosaurs" first.

There is no explanation as to why the main couple would be together. Their personalities are incompatible and they have different ideas about parenting. She is way brighter and more educated than he is. They are in very different career paths, of a sort which do not usually go together. She disrespects his career. It appears she may have let him do time for another man's child. Other than that, he does not appear to be a good father or a good provider and they don't appear to share any hobbies or interests. AND they do not appear to have any chemistry. If at least they were just crazy hot for each other, that would explain it, but no.

The stuff where the little girl predictably tells the main guy his name is Daddy is eye-rollingly painful to watch.

It is also difficult to feel like it is a big tragedy that some selfish people in the future decided to take extra resources and got in trouble for it. There is all that stuff about how the time travel is a one-way trip, only the leader reports to the home world. These two things I think the writers could write their way out of and have make sense, but they definitely need to be addressed.

This is minor, but the show has continuity errors like the bad girl takes off her top (but not her bottoms) before jumping in the falls. And then her bottoms have just turned into a bathing suit bottom in the next scene. Her wearing a bathing suit, rather than being nude like the son character acted like she was, is one more reason I don't usually watch network TV.

The main actors in the viewpoint could all be either more plausible and/or more attractive.

The actors are doing sitcom level acting, except for the group leaders. The leader in the main camp acts so much better for this type of action SF show that he appears to have wandered in from another show. The sitcom quality musical score just adds to the awful.

Also, the writers are telegraphing too hard. Do the ya think the bad girl's dad is going to turn out to be dead or missing? Do ya think the teenage girl is going to figure out the leader's son's public math problems? Ooh, I can't wait to find out. Only the actress who plays the teenage daughter is so bad that she can barely say the science lines. Nobody thought to test that before casting her?

Some of the homages to great cinema are cute, but this is ultimately really not great cinema.

But, yeah, DINOSAURS! They should make a DVD of just the brontosaurus wandering around and occasionally being fed by a little girl.

Can someone explain this science plot hole to me?

If they found a "fracture" in time, and can only travel back to that specific time, and can't travel back -- how do they even know that the people going through the gate aren't just being vaporized?

Doesn't the knowledge that someone actually time traveled need a traveler to return to the present to report that they actually went back 85 million years?

I realize I said "actually" a lot.

LOL> Exactly. Plus I see the same tired old characters who are crapping up this century now transported back to that time.

Dinos 10
Characters - subpar
Storyline- requires at least 6 stupid pills
Dialogue - laughable...subpar
Will give it one more try.
I like seeing hot teens
being eaten
by dinosaurs

It's pretty good.

It's Jurassic Park meets Avatar meets Lost.

There are going to be some crazy storlylines and plot twists coming up in the next few weeks.

No spoilers though. This is going to get good.

They sent some kind of probe that magically could send information back to the future. They seem to be able to communicate with each other as well. Maybe they will explain more later, LOL.

During the scene with the probe they also talked about being sent back on a " Time Thread " which was on a different thread of time than the one they were originally on. That was said to cover the question as to why their actions in Terra Nova wouldn't affect or change the future which is always the problem brought up when talking about time travel.

They certainly left the door open to lots of plot twists so it might be interesting to see where they go. I hope they keep it entertaining as I got lost watching Lost after about five episodes.

Jurassic Park meets Back To The Future.

There is a lot of potential. It could be a flop by episode 3 or it could be the next sci-fi classic. I've had really high hopes for this show, but the pilot didn't quite deliver for me. Could have used more science and a plot that better explains what's been going on there.

The fat chin doesnt bother me, but I get tired of the questions about the scars.

I'll give it a chance and watch a few more episodes before I render a verdict, but I found the first episode's plot a bit contrived. A cross between Jurassic Park and Stargate, and of course you have the young people going off and getting into trouble, of course with some rogue group and an attack by evil vicious critters. Throw in a mystery (the rock etchings by the waterfall) and we have ourselves a series!

Frankly I was expecting a bit more from this, but will wait to see what comes of it.

Actually it's 138 years not 100. 38 years can make a difference. 2011 isn't the same as 1973 now is it?

That being said it's not even the time travel thing that bother me. Why go back to the age of dinosaurs? Seems more dangerous than living in that time. If you have the technology to go back in time one would think you have the technology to clean the air and water? To grow more food? Birth control? Oh wait we have those things NOW.

Maybe someone who has watched it can explain to me how Terra Nova got built without the builders being eaten?

Mixed feelings. It portrays some kind of socialist society, run by a trigger happy military commander, as utopia. They cannot even trade a bit of iron ore without a major gun battle. Like in "Falling Skies", is all that militarism a reflection of US society at the moment?

I think the leader of Terra Nova said he was the first person to be sent there and the
group of guys that were supposed to follow behind him didn't make it for several days or a month or more so he had to find a way to survive on his own which he obviously did. It was his living testimony that people can find a way to survive Terra Nova.

The Walking Dead starts back up on Oct 16th and then TV will truly be worth watching again.
