spiked across the board, bought some drives and the next day they had almost doubled in price.

Yeah old news indeed, however it still sucks.
It is expected that prices will be/stay up at least several months and will be harder to get, especially enterprise drives. Luckily we refilled our stock a month ago with about 500 drives

Prices went up here even before the local stock was exhausted. There's a lot of distributors and retail shops making a quick buck from this.
