Why women, EVEN THOSE WITH CHILDREN, should carry a gun.

By Dave Nethers Fox 8 News Reporter
November 12, 2011

AKRON, Ohio?
Shirley Bennett, of Akron, says she never wanted a gun in her house when her children were growing up. Three years ago, however, she decided to get a concealed carry permit after someone attempted to break into her apartment.

It is a decision she believes paid off on Thursday.

You really want all women armed and carrying concealed guns into Wal Mart? LOL.

I'm all for it really. Let's weed out the idiots.

The chances of her getting raped, beaten, or murdered are far great than those of a random bullet hitting somebody walking by.

All women? No. Just those who qualify.

As far as weeding them out, lets start with those who shop regularly at Walmart. ;)

how come that in Canada, where everybody owns a a gun, there are less ( in percentage ) gun related deaths? Carrying a gun is NOT the solution.

More Americans own guns than Canadians. The numbers are WAY higher than those in Canada. Canadians, for the most part, own rifles and shotguns, not handguns. Most civilian gun related deaths are caused by handguns.

If we are going to draw comparisons then it's only fair to compare apples to apples and not to oranges.

Carrying a gun is a very justifiable solution for those who live in a country where guns have been allowed for 200+ years. The guns aren't going anywhere and those who should not have them do anyway. All things being equal, if the bad guy has a good chance of having a gun, my wife (or whoever is being attacked) should have one too.

Besides, who said anything about gun related deaths? I'm talking about the woman having the ability to stop her attacker who, as far as I know, wasn't armed with a gun.

Did the attacker stop? Yes.

Was the attacked later arrested? Yes.

Was the woman harmed? No.

Who gives a rats ass if she shot the guy, emptied the gun into the air, or shot her own foot? The bottom line is that by her having the gun, she was able to stop the attack.

some people should not have guns because they wont have the heart to use it. they'll end up being killed by their own weapon.

How many Canadians do you know? I don't know any Canadians that have a gun, whose family has a gun or AFAIK themselves know anyone who has a gun. I think it's really just hunters who have guns.

I'm not saying the gun didn't help her here, it sounds like it did, but what if the guy had taken the gun from her? Sounded like there was quite a struggle. And next time I guess the guy will go into a situation armed himself.

I think the US is pretty much unique in that it's fucked in terms of gun control. The country was formed, expanded and built at the barrel of a gun. Every solution to every problem in the US, or in US foreign policy, is guns. And if that doesn't work, more guns.

It's not a good situation, but it's never going to change.

Lived in NS for a while and they all had guns. When its hunting season you see them walking down the street with a gun wrapped in a garbage bag and orange vest until they are outside the city limit so they could hunt.

Why was she out of the kitchen? And all he wanted was a little nookie, she should have shutup and let him have his way!
No really she was stupid, had the guy had any weapon or was a real threat she'd be dead anyways.

To each their own. No guns needed for this guy. Lived here 33 years and I've never even see a gun. Unless it was attached to a cops belt.

The problem is with so many guns already out there, with easy access to guns on the black market ..... Any type of gun control only makes law abiding citizens at a further disadvantage when confronted by criminals.

To me guns are an equalizer. Guns give me a decent chance to protect myself. Unfortunately that's just the way it is. Any other view point is self delusional. In the US anyway.

My ex-aunt used to carry a concealed weapon.

One night my uncle (her husband) and her were out at the bar with our family and having a good time. They went home and she said she was going to go in the bathroom and freshen up so they could fool around.

He laid on the bed. She came out of the bedroom and unloaded two rounds in his chest.

In her confession to police she said there was no motive, she just decided to do it spur of the moment. No history of abuse, cheating, etc. in either direction. They both were happy until that night.

I personally knew one person that was killed by the gun of a stranger in a crime. I know more that have been killed in hunting accidents or by somebody they knew and trusted.

Like I've said before, I support your right to arm yourself but the chances of being able to defend yourself with it are minute.

Phil Harman bought his wife a gun to defend their home while he was away and she used it to murder him. So no not all women should have a gun. BTW, I am totally pro 2nd amendment but agree with not letting people with mental issues own a gun.

it is sad to live in society where people are on such level to think it is normal, smart or good to have a gun.

They make it so difficult to obtain a handgun or other restricted weapon in Canada that most people do not bother. (other than the criminals)

Once you do go through all the hoops to legally acquire a handgun in Canada, you literally have to call the police to tell them when you are travelling with it and what your destination is, and the only place you are allowed to shoot them is at a gun range. If you own a farm, you can't even go out in your backyard and shoot a hand gun legally.

You probably remember the scene in Bowling For Columbine when Michael Moore said that bit about Canada and everyone here owning guns. Problem was he was totally full of shit and didn't mention the facts.

edit: rifles and shotguns are very popular though.

There's no thugs in Canada? No muggers, no breaking and entering? You're bad ass enough to hold your own if 2 or 3 guys accost you? Good for you. I'm not.

I don't have a gun because I'm afraid I have one to handle whatever comes my way as best I can. You ever lose a fight? A real fight ... Have you ever been hit, really hit. It's not pretty.

The thing is in Canada we can't walk around with a handgun on us or even in our vehicle, so in the case of a fight on the street or in a store robbery, etc. they would be useless for "law-abiding" citizens.

Cops up here are more worried about laying unsafe gun storage or unsafe use charges than they are about catching real criminals or about letting people protect themselves or their property

Michael Moore full of shit? Say it isn't so....

I like the "other than the criminals" part. Proves why I choose to protect myself.

Yes to each their own. I've had a CCW license at times, then when I had some less responsible people living with me I sold the pistols. Now we each have a Glock at our desk, while I generally don't carry outside the house and office. Each adult has to make their own decision based on their situation.

It would be interesting to see a state or area (larger than Kennesaw) where 10% or more were properly trained and carrying. Since the predators wouldn't know who was armed and who wasn't, I'd bet crime would be nearly unheard of.

When did I say that?? Of course there is. All I'm saying is canadians are not like americans we don't feel the need to arm ourselves for protection hence why I said to each their own. If you feel the need to carry a gun so be it. I don't, I'm born and raised in Toronto and I've never felt the need for a gun. Someone could break into my house at anytime but I just don't have that fear that seems to come with gun owners. Like I said I've Never seen a gun in my life and that is perfectly fine with me.

lol yeah I was taking the piss.

In reality you have nothing to worry about?

It's a bit like thinking about how you are going to spend all those millions when you win the lottery.
