London in December

How shitty the weather usually is?
Any attractions except Coffee Costa and the Palace?

I'm thinking to pay a visit, so, curious what would be it
to go for

Consider it would be 4 days stay, any real to go see Dublin or Edinburgh?

Cheers,
Sid

A) Is it your first visit?

B) Are you looking for a nice recreational PG13 visit or getting a taste of the local flavour?

A) No, been there several times, so main attractions AKA basic tourist routs = done.
May be to explore SOHO bits more?

B) LOL wife is involved, so some PG13 daily then probably some good stuff overnight

London has a few attractions, if with the wife, maybe up the eye in the evening, or take her to Madame Tussauds.
You could find a true London market, maybe even the flower selling in the early hours of the morning at Battersea is fun for the British light.

You could check this website http://www.41hotel.com/offers-and-gifts

There is sealife, but to be honest, the US sea world is probably bigger & better, so no point in doing anything similar to your own native country

Westminster Abbey & Buckingham Palace are a must see, but personally, get a cab, take a light pack up & enjoy walking around rather than just driving past, there's no where to park & you probably want to get some pics...

Don't forget to get some topless photos, or we don't believe you have been

Welcome to Bournemouth on the train, drop into my studio & enjoy a coffee anytime

My bad... You say been several times, then the Soho is needed is if you ain't been there. Maybe drop into a sex cinema, but the topless photos still apply

Here you have a few options to choose from

http://www.timeout.com/london/featur...ts-in-december

The wife will probably enjoy the Real food Christmas market and Walking around the main atractions in the evening to see Christmas lights.

Iceskating and warm drinks one afternoon http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/whatson/...ature-495.html

Date night at a nice restaurant followed by cocktails sounds like something you would enjoy and maybe if you your budget allows, perhaps go to a show...

http://www.londontheatre.co.uk/londo...ndcalendar.htm

and if anything else fails just get piss-drunk like all the locals do to deal with the cold ;)

Walk around IN the cab? I'm lost man. Surely it's an either/or situation? Unless it's a really big cab?

Actually I'm from Reigate, but lived in Chiswick for 4 years before moving to Brighton. Now I live in Arundel.

Luton is not North London. It's 33 miles north of London. LOL.

Oxford Street is a pikey area. Full of pound shops and tourist tat.

And there is NO WAY they would have christmas stuff in the shops in London at this time of year, idiotface.

London will be wet and grey but there are still many good sightseeing opportunities, try a walk down the Embankment - you can see everything as diverse as the war-damaged Cleopatra's needle, the tower, the bridges, HMS Belfast and even the MI5 building, As well as loads of other interesting stuff - But it will be cold!.

In general, I think this listed below might be entertaining:

1) Food market - http://www.timeout.com/london/around...ristmas-market

2) A new flick -http://www.timeout.com/film/reviews/90447/sherlock-holmes-a-game-of-shadows.html

3) Some skating .. maybe ;) - http://www.somersethouse.org.uk/ice-rink

I doubt it will be COLD, I mean like real cold we get here. -10C + wind , all the pics of London in December look like it's +5C or even warmer

Sounds like a real good day with the skating, I've always been keen on skating

Yeah, you're right as it's not too cold, do wear your warm coats though... You will need them to protect your arms, bet you fall over at least once if you haven't been for a while

Oh, yeah. it won't be cold compared to some countries but what we excell at in Britain is changable weather. You could wake up to nice sunshine, eat breakfast watching a hailstorm and go outside in the rain and return in the snow.

Somerset House is a gyp. The 'rink' is tiny. It will be RAMMED with people falling over. The ice is crap slush. It will be expensive. You end up shuffling around a puddle of slush for 30 minutes.

How about a gallery or museum instead? My favourite is the Tate Modern, but if you've never been than the Natural History and Science museums are both great too. (all free).

Or take in a matinee of one of the shows. There is a half price ticket booth in Leicester Square (pronounced LESSTER, not LIE CHEST TER) that sells day tickets for the shows.

Afternoon tea at the ritz is fun.

My fave high end - Charlotte Street Hotel or Browns
My fave low end - travelodge, covent garden

If you want a good midrange, then Crown Plaza City is OK, near St Paul's and all that lot.

Oh man, St Paul's. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the whispering gallery in st paul's, it really is cool. And the views from teh top are brilliant.

Tate Modern - nearest tube?
Natural History and Science museums - nearest tube?

Everything major in london is accessed from the underground tube station.

ADD:

Trafalgar Square - nearest tube: Charing Cross
(World famous square with odd things happening and museums around it)

Chinatown - nearest tube: Leicester Square
(If you like massage, chinese food, shops this is the place to be)

Harrods - nearest tube: Knightsbridge
(World famous department store and big celebrity hangout)

Hyde Park - nearest tube: Hyde Park Corner
(Huge park, lakes, activities, no point going in the winter)

Madam Tussauds - nearest tube: Baker Street
(Also some shops, planetarium, sherlock holmes lived here)

London Eye - nearest tube: Waterloo
(Big wheel can sit on it and see views, other stuff there)

London is NEVER boring - I miss that place a lot.
December wise, its rare to be below zero celcius during the day.

Cold and very fucking wet, but on the other hand there are so many pubs with bands playing live music and easy chicks (yes with yellow teeth) that you wont miss the outside.

Although Swiss Cottage doesn't look that far out on the tube map, it is a bit of a shit hole. And actually quite far out.

I'd go to St Paul's Tube, see that, walk over wobbly bridge and go to Tate Modern.

Museums - South Kensington

If you're doing museums don't forget the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibition at the National Gallery, and as Damian says tea at The Ritz is fun, but you have to book ages in advance.
You could then wander through Burlington Arcade into Bond Street and work your way up to Liberty - my favourite shop in London. When you're all shopped out, jump in a cab & head for Marcus Wareing's restaurant at The Berkeley Hotel. Well that's what I do every now and then
We Londoners are notorious for not doing the touristy things on our doorstep, but the London Eye is worth a spin if you squeeze it in!

It's short for favourite Gary. Maybe if you hadn't been kicked out of school at 15 you wouldn't have all this difficulty understand words.

HTH.

Excellent post. You've never been to soho, but your friends have. Fucking hell. Wow. Thanks so much for sharing.
