Buy.XXX Traffic Update: 3.7 Million Visitors; 1.2 Million Type In?s

http://www.thedomains.com/2011/11/29...e-to-top-1000/

According to Google Analytics which ICM shared with me as of yesterday, total visitors to date, to Buy.XXX is right over 3.7 Million.

Of the 3.7 million, the online ad campaign, which is actually directed to the URL; go.buy.xxx, got 2.5 Million visitors meaning that over 1.2 million visitors were generated from traditional offline media including television, billboards & magazines.

We did several digital media buys, in addition to other offline media buys. Pop-unders were included in the digital buy, but they also included banners (on mainstream sites like FHM, college humor, loaded magazine) that would require a click. Regardless, Alexa still takes into account that fully one third of that traffic was produced entirely by non-digital means.

Quite a boon for .xxx domain owners next year as we change to consumer focused ads and continue to use mainstream advertising to drive traffic to developed .xxx domains.

So you are going to advertise on TV and sites that are popular with kids to drive traffic to XXX sites?

That sounds like a winning plan.

So irresponsible its ridiculous.

consumer focused ads... hmm.... and you plan to stop kids from going to these sites, how exactly? I don't see how you can sleep at night...

Please explain to us how that works.

How do you distinguish a popunder hit from a typein?

Furthermore, if one uses the Google Trends tool, there is no data for ?buy.xxx? as a search term (and if I recall correctly, there *was* for GoDaddy.com when they had their Superbowl commercial, as one can verify by looking back at the Google Trends stats). Of course, Google.co disappeared from the radar soon thereafter, and Buy.xxx will likely prove to be at most a ?blip? (just like the entire .co extension, if one goes by traffic stats).

There?s another way to assess traffic, namely by looking at the root-servers.org statistics for the L-root (public stats are available for that one). I?ll put a link in the next message, so that this message isn?t hit by the moderation queue.
Quote:
Just to followup on my prior comment, one can check the popularity of various TLDs using the root zone stats. For the past week:

http://dns.icann.org/cgi-bin/dsc-gra...d&server=Lroot

.co doesn?t make the chart, and neither does .xxx. TLDs like .eu, .cz, and .biz DO make the chart, albeit near the bottom (there?s a headline for you ?.biz is more popular than .co? ? Sorry, Robert Cline, LOL)

Non-existent and invalid TLDs (like .home or .local) rank higher than .biz, though.
Quote:
Google Trends for ?godaddy.co? for 2011:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=godad...=2011&sort= 0

Notice the spike, and then it disappeared completely. For buy.xxx, in the past 30 days:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=buy.x...o=all&date=mtd

No data whatsover (i.e. Your terms ? buy.xxx ? do not have enough search volume to show graphs.). In comparison, porno.com in the past 30 days:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=porno...o=all&date=mtd

does register with stats. Yet, buy.xxx, which is supposedly getting ?massive type-ins? doesn?t generate anything on Google Trends? It doesn?t make sense to me.

the type in numbers are there. i assume most would be from offline media? and the tube was shufini or whatever.

of course offline is mostly about branding and awareness not clicks anyway.

Popunder traffic looks just like typein traffic.

And even if a large part of that typein traffic is real, it still doesn't mean anything. How many of those surfers who watched the commercial on TV will return to buy.xxx now they know it's nothing more than a place to buy overpriced domain names?

face it whether you like it or not - and i don't - they are making millions and will continue to do so. their target isn't adult, which is dead. it's mainstream. every person who owns a domain will buy the xxx version. sorry how they pulled it off was very smart.

the free market determined the winner once again.

I wonder how many kids will be stealing their parents credit card to get their own cool XXX site since surfers are apparently the demographic and not the "sponsored community" (whoever they are)?

ICM has proven themselves to be irresponsible, peddling smut to kids through TV and sites popular with kids like college humor.

The same company that said we need to protect kids from porn is giving them a treasure map.

I will stick with my RTA labels on all sites and hope parents are doing their part. Buying an XXX domain may help kids find my site once they start their mainstream traffic advertising which is exactly what I want to prevent.

So, you're going to air your ads during primetime, when kids are watching tv the most? That's fucking genius.

It amazes me how concerned everyone is about their claim of stats/traffic but nobody else in here except for one person has any concern for this shit being shoved down kids' throats.

What. The. Fuck.

.xxx was one of the biggest mistakes to ever happen, no one wanted it, no one needed it, no one was for it....

I consider it an adult industry nightmare.

but when one of the selling points was to make it easier to filter it from children and they then run ads during prime time, it just shows even further how fucked up the whole concept of .xxx is.

They're obviously a textbook example of hypocrisy. All I have to say is that this is fucking disgusting and it's really unfortunate that apparently people care more about their fucking traffic stats rather than protecting children, according to the summary of most of the posts in here so far.

Investing in alternative TLDs is like throwing money into a slot machine. While there?s a few winners, you know that the ?house? has a huge advantage. The smart thing to do is not to even play those machines at all, but find investments where you have a positive *expected* ROI.

It?s ?exciting? to some to throw money into a game where the expected ROI is negative, and come out ahead. I?ll take the boring route and invest in activities where the expected ROI is positive from the get-go (i.e. high quality .com domains that I can build upon).
